
Well as far as I know I`ve never seen a bigger bug. In germany the bugs are quite small. We found this one during a bus stop during my trip through South Africa. Well Africa has a surprise behind each corner :). Gekkos in the bath room, mantis at the toilets. :)

it looks like a type of pine sawyer, of the long-horned beetle family (Cerambycidae)... this one looks most like a Californian pine sawyer... http://waynesword.palomar.edu/images/prionu3.jpg
the Species may have been imported, or it may be a African native that just looks alike...
but if it is a type of pine sawyer, then it's larva feeds on dead wood, like fallen logs and/or stumps... and most types of pine sawyers are nocturnal, and thus they are attracted to lights... hence why it may have been at the bus stop.
