Let me just take a few seconds to say that I. AM. THE. FUCKING. MAN!
Now that that's out of the way, I'd been trying to learn to skateboard recently as a new means of transportation. I was thinking about getting my own board, and then thought "Why don't I buy a blank one and paint it myself?" But then that led to "Why don't I buy a blank one, paint it with a sexy fox using one of the trucks as a mock censor bar, and then take it with me to display at Anthrocon."
I'm sure there were some series of events between those two thoughts, but whatever. The important thing is that I just need to add a clear coat for added durability and then box it up and carry it along. I'll TRY to get it into the art show, but failing that, I'll put it on my artist alley table for all to see. Failing THAT, I'll just walk around with it.
Done using spray paint, homemade stencils, and a good ol' fashioned sharpie.
Grip tape already installed!
If no one wants to buy it at the con, I'll definitely keep it for myself.

they're measured just in width and length.
7.5" is a bit on the smaller side, but alot of people ride either 7.5" or 7.75"
i used to not even care wut size i rode until i started riding 8.0" cause its more to catch when your flipping and its awesome to have more board for your feet to grip when your shredding:3
i wish i could send you an old deck just to get it stenciled, cause i love how clean it is.

I mean, you can curve an 8.5 inch wide sheet of paper and make it look like it's 3 inches wide. I know boards are curved so I was wondering if they were measured straight across or along the curve (since I didn't know how they're measured). Turns out it's 8 inches pretty much either way, so I'm guessing it is an 8 inch board.
oh, lol
as far as im aware of the concave (curve) dosnt come into play because the board is measured as how you'll ride it. If the board is measured at 8.0" then you got 8.0" under your feets.
Although im not all too sure if flattening out the concave would add many inches to the size, but concave is essential to board shape and function.
this is still a sick board, lol

actually, decocolor paint pens and spraypaint have done the job for me. And I used to use acrylic paint too, but that goes on a bit too thick and doesn't give me as much control as I'd like for linework.

Still, if you don't get into the AA at AC (because I know if you do, I can just about guarantee you you'll sell the board ;) ), I'd be up for doing a little piece on your grip with my paint pens. That and I'll have my board on me and I'd be down to go out and skate for a bit if you wanted.

Ah, I feel ya. I kinda lucked out in that I got myself a decent job well enough ahead of time and they're cool enough to let me have Friday off. And you're in Maryland, whattaya mean you dunno how to get to Pittsburgh?? You're probably nearly as close as I am and mine's a 5 hour trip. Just mapquest it, foo.
That's some nice saturation there.
Well I've only got the deck so it's not like I can ride it. Plus I've gotten a few offers to buy so even if I don't sell it at AC, I'll be putting it up on furbid. So I probably shouldn't even if I attached the rest of the parts.
Normally though, I guess if you're going for decoration it wouldn't hurt to work on both sides... If you're not lazy.

Laziness doesn't really feel a part of it for me. It's more the fact that the bottoms will be rubbed off quickly enough that I don't feel it's worth the effort. Especially when the grip is more visible and sets me apart more anyway. I can't even ride my decks until I paint them anymore because it just doesn't feel right to have nothing on top, haha. So it's half a decoration thing and half just purely ingrained into me now. One of those self-expression cliches.
But yeah I feel ya on not wanting to attach the trucks for now since it looks like it'll sell. Still, I'm always down to share a board if you get the itch to push around a bit :). Just be forewarned I skate my trucks WAY loose because I like to carve X)

It's a nice deck. If I wasn't getting a new one soon I'd check that one out. This is the one I'm getting. :3

Bad ass. You should trick out one of those. That's what I'm doing with mine.
