Ran across this photo of my black-powder guns when uploading the vacation photos. Yeah, muzzle-loading caplocks are strictly 1800's. But the ability to roll your own gunpowder (and cast your own bullets) in a pinch, is appealing. And besides, they're just plain fun to play with. Ch-chingg, ka-FOOMPH!

The Remington replicas are common and relatively inexpensive - saw one on sale here for $120, recently They're also the strongest of the cap-and-ball revolvers, thanks to the top-strap. Be sure to get a steel-frame gun (the brass-frame ones are pretty, but too soft, and will eventually go out of true). And yes, you gotta clean 'em religiously.
On the plus side, they're not firearms, according to the BATF, so you can buy 'em with no paperwork. Online, even.
An option for people in gunphobic states, who still want to be able to defend themselves when SHTF. The .44 slugs still hit as hard as in the old days, ya know? They're slow to reload, but that can be ameliorated with spare cylinders (my stainless steel Remington has two spares), and in any case, most gunfights are settled in 1 to 3 shots.

I approve. Got to love them front stuffers.
I agree about the Remingtons, and old man Ruger seemed to, too. He designed his Old Army as a Remington New Army on steroids. My brother has the original style, mine has the adjustable sights (call me a Philistine), both stainless (easy to clean). His is dead-nuts accurate; I haven't fired mine yet
I have a LeMat reproduction, too. It's the Cabela's special, probably by F.lli Pieta.
