This Corsair is owned by the Collings Foundation and is the sole flying F4U-5NL variant of the -5 series (of about 30 that fly around the world).
This is a still I had shot from the Cleveland air show in September 2012 from my Sony Handycam. Heat waves are distorting this picture because I was shooting across a very hot tarmac while this F4U was taxiing for takeoff.
This particular aircraft here actually sank off the cost of Florida about seventeen years ago ago when its engine failed from fuel starvation. It suffered moderate damage in the ditching and subsequent sinking (it sat underwater for about a week before being raised). It returned to the skies around 2004 where it has been maintained in flying condition ever since.
