I put together a tutorial on how I did this piece of Chi from start to finish in Manga Studio 5. If you'd like to grab the Tutorial for yourself here's the links:

Yep, as a traditionally trained illustrator, I struggled with finding a digital package that 'worked' for me.
I've used Photoshop for 20 years as a designer, but I hate it as an illustration program. Painter is good, but just too insanely complex for my liking.
I recently discovered Manga Studio 5, and instantly fell in love with it. It just 'felt right', right from the get-go. It took a little tweaking to find exactly the tools that suited me, and a tiny bit of customisation to get a pencil that is 'just right', but overall I just found it an intuitive fit.
I love it.
And it's a good price, too.
The only other program I want to try is Autodesk Sketchbook. I've seen some work done in it that I would have sworn had been painted in gouache.

I was getting ready to ink my first half-decent drawing and had already discovered the fuzzy tool.
This guide has a few decent tidbits that I hadn't thought about - like filling in the body area with grey after inking to reserve the coloring area and then erasing the outsides (never thought that fuzzy would select outside of my lines, but it makes sense).
And then that you can lock the transparency of a layer so that you won't draw over it. I sure hope GIMP works that way!
This tutorial will certainly help fill in the blanks! It's a little gem and I intend to take full advantage of it! Mine, all mine~ -Laughs like Queen Chrysalis-
