First and foremost...
Quaidis and
Dolphinboy You are both to blame for me getting SUPER INTO NEW SOUNDS AND STUFF!! I spent roughly 6 hours getting all sorts of sound effects now and i threw them into the song i know i can always add to.
Tons of new things from the older one... especially the one AT THE END *hint hint*
This piece is loud so you have all been warned!
This is also a continuation of the first commission i ever got from
Kamduis_RavenPaw Who game me 8 fractals for a piece for her novel.. I hope i gave her justice!!
This is The Beginning Of The End!!

-faceplants onto all the things- I truly have no words for this...you have certainly outdone yourself with this; the end part I just LOVE, it works in perfectly with the revised/edited scene of my novel! (Almost like you read my mind...)
This is a wonderful surprise thank you so much for all the work you've done to this piece thus far-I say thus far because if I know you well enough there will probably be more versions to come as you learn more thing!!
-hugs most tightly-

Nice change in tempo from the beginning section and the second section. My only critique is that you rarely if ever ventured into more keys and varied the harmonic language. You sort of never moved from the two principal chords. You should definitely expand this piece as it sounds great so far!
Cool stuff, man.
I think some of the SFX are a bit loud. I found myself thinking what the heck is that?!? at 2:29, turning my head to see if the TV exploded or something... and at 3:00... I don't really know what's going on as far as matching up with a story but as for me it's an orchestra in a tornado. Pretty cool, but a bit hard on my ears. I think they would be more effective dialed back a bit.
I wish you had a better piano sample but we all want better samples. But piano being so important to ya, that's a good candidate for a high place on the wish list imho.
Strings... which articulations are you using in SO gold? I suggest layering more sounds, especially to get more articulation for rapid lines, add some staccato strings, maybe even solo staccato to get that bite at the beginning of each note.. so you can get cha-cha-cha-cha hard bowing sound instead of wah-wah-wah-wah... the lines kind of wash out. That is an effect I kept looking and looking for (and bet the close mics of SO Platinum would really help with.. Did you hear those links I noted you? That staccato string improv... staccato violins and violas... also spiccato cello, nice to add bite to those runs and has a nice wide range. The SO gold instruments also respond great to the controller value called "expression" It's like a secondary volume but changes the timbre a bit as it changes. The manual suggests you use the fader of string channels to set the max volume, but mix volume changes using velocity and expression control. Cubase has an editor for that in the event editor, (double clicking the MIDI parts).
As for your shout, Cubase 7.5 is so lovely. More of everything. More instruments, more audio processing plugins, better mixer section, all kinds of good stuff. The instruments included lean far more toward electronic, pop, new age, etc. The audio processing is geared towards recording and editing live musicians, microphone inputs, guitars, vocals and the like. A significant amount of your money would be going for those amenities that I'm not sure you need (or do you... up to you). You can get creative running samples through those... y'know.. compressors, eq's, reverbs chorus, delay, stereo enhancers, you name it.
8Dio and SoundIron used to be one company called Tonehammer. Then they split into the 2 companies. They make some really lovely sample libraries. I suggest going their websites and drooling over their lovely demo songs. They make great orchestra and choir instruments that cost hundreds, but also make lots of fun little libraries that are super cheap, sometimes even free!
BUT!!
The catch is many of them require a full licensed installation of Kontakt 4.2 or higher.. Kontakt is a wonderful tool. It comes with a full suite of sounds that are pretty great on their own, but it's sophisticated sample engine is used by many a third party sample library. Plus it's main function of being able to make your own samples quickly and easily from any sound source. There IS a FREE version of Kontakt called player or something like that... some libraries can use it. But I love my Kontakt (4.2) because it opens up so many inexpensive libraries from other companies.
http://8dio.com/instrument-map/ 8Dio's instrument map. so awesome. hover over any of the names and a demo plays. Click on one to see all the details and likely many more examples of them being used.
http://8dio.com/instrument/catmosphere/ listen to this $19 library. unless you really hate cats lol.
If I had loads of cash, there are many libraries there I would get right away. Both the choirs, Liberis and Requiem. Liberis is STUNNING boy choirs, like Edward Scissorhands, etc. Requiem is full chorus... so many great products.
SoundIron. Same deal. look at this!
http://soundiron.com/products/ironpack Three Dollars and ninety nine cents. for a lovely library! I think I'll go buy it right now. (but it needs Kontakt 4.2) Cool thing is they put (naked) or (dressed) in the demo names. Naked ones are un-altered samples from the library. Dressed may have effects, mixed with other layers of sounds, etc. In general, the naked ones give you a better idea of what the library sounds like out of the box, the dressed ones show more what you can do with many other toys in use too.
oh WAIT! I just saw this, and I quote "can be used in the full retail version of Kontakt 4.2.4 or later, as well as universal open source SFZ presets for those who don't own Kontakt. The SFZ presets can be used in the free Sforzando Player by Plogue, as a VST, AU, RTAS, AAX and stand-alone engine just like Kontakt.
So check that stuff out!
thus ends my longest comment ever, methinks. lemme know if I can help.

thanks so much for all the critique.. i will get to work on all of them asap
I am looking at cubase7 once i get a few paychecks under my belt, i do not own Kontakt.. so i will work to get that one as well. And you said platinum eh?... awesome, i have a friend with a copy of that and i will write to him to get him to send me that. He no longer writes music anymore with those programs and instead he gives me a bunch of older stuff. That is how i got Colossus and Ra :D
Still by far my favorite artist, and i will work harder. It's hard for me with my time being super limited, and i mouse type all my music. Its at the point where its a chore to write new music because i cannot find a keyboard, midi device, and a control board for cheap or for a deal... or remotely anyone who knows how to build one in my area... And since i am no longer a music student, i have no access to all that gear at school which is where most of my music was written.
I will look into all you have said here and i have only had some time to listen to what you sent me, i am listening to it bit my bit. I take notes as i listen to music.

cool my friend. I am happy to help with what I have experienced. I just picked up soundiron's Iron Pack 7 and it's really nice! especially for 4 bucks, and it says you can use a free player, SFZ or something to use it. Check it out! There are ALWAYS deals to be had if you know where to look!
look at the M-Audio keystations. They are pretty low priced, have models in 49-61-88 key.. some with extra faders and pots to control assignable midi functions some just plain jane with keys. some weighted some not. check amazon, ebay etc. I'll help if I can :) I like to shop and compare deals etc, and if it's a product I know anything about i'd be glad to help
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/det.....Fa_m7Aod0x0AYg not weighted keys but good prices for brand new gear
I understand the time. It's hard when pesky real life gets in the way of our artistic endeavors, like now ;) it's 1:15am and I'm shutting down my toys after messing around with a couple ideas and auditioning my new soundiron patches. I'm super pleased with them.
oh.. one more stop for you! go to http://ocremix.org/ Over Clocked Remix. They feature composers who remake video game music. You submit, and if they pick you they promote your music to their fans! I havent felt ready to submit yet. I did a Ultima song: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8682582/ but think I can do better with it, and havent submitted it yet,
good luck and squee ya around.
