Here's the prologue to a story I'm working on, please let me know what you think of it. Thanks for reading! (Some the fancy things I included don't work on FA)
Another Day on the Job
Prologue
We were tailored for this kind of work. Get dropped off at the edge of town via semi-truck, work your way down to the target and do what you need to do. That's how life was for my captain and I. We lived in the world of darkness and little to no intel on our target expect his background and at least their basic troop deployment. Our armor and accessories made just for us. The captian's was form-fitting and heavily armored yet as fluid as mercury. His left forearm had a place to attach his custom made shield: it was titanium-aluminum, eighteen inches long, twelve inches across and shaped like a diamond with flattend ends. Paired with that he had a short-sword. The only firearms he carried are a twelve-gauge pump action shotgun and a suppressed Five-Seven pistol. Intersetingly he didn't have a full helmet: it was more like a stripped down one. His goggles had the heads-up-display integrated into them, and his maw covering included voice-filters, air-filters and a sensor package. To top that all off he wore a standard issue cloth cap.
For me? I had the same base suit, but I had more tactical options. My shoulder pads were slimmed down in width but were millimeters thicker. Instead of of a standard combat-harness I had a ballistic vest with pockets and cases for just about anything you want and need. My blade was eight inches stealth coated titanium and five inches plastic-rubber. I had an experimental HUD display: it was a contact-lens with all the electronics somehow crammed into them. My maw cover was similar to the captains, but I had one that was shortened and lighter in weight. At my side I had a semiautomatic .44 magnum with a suppressor. To back that up I had a MK14 EBR with variable zoom optics, suppressor, armor-piercing rounds and angled foregrip. My boots were experimental as well, they had a softer sole and were oiled leather to prevent squeaking and noise.
The day we were called down to the base was a usual Sunday morning: quiet streets and the occasional bell toll from a cathedral. The captain had picked me up from my apartment like usual; he loved the battered, old jeep. Together we made our way down to the base; about a hour drive through forest and mountains. When we got to the base, we made our way to our quarters where we found our gear already prepped. We always went over it ourselves; call it personal preference. We had done this over a dozen times now, so we didn't notice he was only his boxers and I only in my panties and bra. We pulled our base suits then we tightened the rest in place. I opend the case containing my contacts and tenderly put them in. All we were missing were our armaments.
We picked up our empty packs and strolled across a large courtyard to the armory and munitions storage. The guard recognized us and opend the large titanium door for us; inside the clerk motioned us over to a locker stacked with boxes and magazines of ammunition. Along the back wall was our equipment. The clerk unlocked it, and we loaded our packs with plenty of spare magazines. The captain stowed his shield by the small of his back; we holstered our pistols and slung our long guns across our backs. We already had our blades. The clerk appeared behind us and handed me three one-pound bars of plastic explosive along with the proper detonation tools. I slid my scope into a pocket on my vest. The captain methodically put eight fragmentation shells into his belt.
We exited the concrete bunker of a building, and we hadn't been briefed on the job yet. After stopping by the mess-hall for some coffee, we walked to the building in the center of the compound. Colonel Minerski greeted by the large table in the middle of the room. Displayed upon the table was a map of the area we'd be working in and several files about the people, geography and so forth. After we had talked for over an hour, we did a final gear check. Then we were driven to the airfield and we set off for northern Germany.
