Hey, folks. Time for this month's new-to-FA music upload, a strange little tune by the name of ''Auto-Pseudo-Mondo''.
This is yet another song that I recorded earlier this year during February Album Writing Month. FAWM is a great environment for songwriters, because there are a lot of people cheering each other on to meet their goal, and trading songwriting tricks, ideas and exercises. One of the optional 'assignments' was to take a set of lyrics written by one FAWMer, add a chord progression provided by a couple of other FAWMers, and then record the song in your own style. You were supposed to do this without listening to anyone else's version first, so that your version would be free of other people's influence. The result was a slew of different versions of the same song, none of which came out sounding quite the same.
At first, I was going to try to record my version in the style of the great British post-punk band Wire, because the nonsensical stream-of-conscious lyrics reminded me of those to their 1988 song ''Kidney Bingos'', but I eventually dropped that idea and just went for a simple synth-and-vocoder-laden arrangement. The last four seconds of the song are a little bit of a tip of the hat to the Imogen Heap song ''Hide And Seek'', and the Saturday Night Live Digital Short that used it to hilarious effect back in April 2007. As usual, recorded in analog, without the use of computer programs of any kind.
Oh, by the way, it warrants mentioning that my recording of this song is slated to appear alongside 17 others on a CD that should be released sometime in the near future. If it happens, it'll be the first (and most likely, last lol) time a song that I recorded appears on an actual commercially-released CD. Of course, it will have absolutely no audience outside of the FAWM community, but hey, small victories, right? :D
[Edit: The "Auto-Pseudo-Mondo" CD is now available, and can be ordered here.]

Thanks, Kurt! The MicroKorg synthesizer that I use has a vocoder built in. I'm sure there must be some way to do it using some sort of computer program, though.
If you can get your hands on a MicroKorg, I highly recommend it. They're pretty inexpensive for all that you can do with them.
