Publishers don't know crap, they just feed people with the same thing over and over because that's all we idiots want.
Grandiosity in prog? Grossly overevaluated, especially in modern prog bands. Because the lyrics are hard to understand and the melodies complex doesn't make a band into pompous assholes - which, on the other hand, is something WAY frequent about your average popular band. And even then, well-done grandiosity can be real good : I'm thinking early Genesis, notably. And that goes without saying even some popular songs can have a sound or lyrics that are just weird, yet they catch on. "In a Goda da Vida" (sp?), anyone?
