Very old work, but I decided to upload. The object on my drafting table is my trusty Zweihander, a mock up of one I eventually intend to construct. Made of wood and bolted to a metal pole salvaged from a trashed hockey stick.
Despite it's cobbled together nature, I'm quite proud of this Seventy-two inch monstrosity.

Reminds me much of how I would design home made weaponry in the same fashion. I still have this sword made from a steel pole, a fishing rod handle, a hollow bamboo pole to fill in the pipe, and several large lug nuts fitted on the ends. Mine feels flimsy because of the handle however, being it made of plastic and all. Sadly, mine is ineffective. But makes for an interesting prop.
I plan to get a little more serious with my "backyard forging" and make a little more durable weapons that can take a beating, and dole it out too. I just need to find the right tools and materials. Then of course spend this excessive amounts of free time I have on crafting such a weapon with.
Already way ahead of you x3
This picture was taken in my workshop. The chunk of metal that's going to be my forge by the end of the weekend is about eight feet to the left, out of view. I just bought my hammer today, all I gotta do is assemble it and I'll be ready to start *grins*

It's generally a good idea to get the metal red hot so it wont become brittle from cold forging it, just in case you did not know (plus it's like, 4 times malleable that way, obvious though). The stuff I want to work with will only need cutting and assembly though. A few nuts and bolts drilled in places and boom, I got a pretty mean piece of shit in my hands. X3
I <3 shop.

I've got a year or more of metallurgical and technical research going into this thing; it just hasn't fallen into place until the last few weeks. And yeah, machining and stock removal are great as long as you start with good materials; sometimes it's the only way to do the job. Thanks though, I appreciate the good will ^__^
