As Lodo waded through the crowds of the dusty settlement she could feel suspicious eyes laying heavily on the back of her neck like a taut rope. Rats were rare and hardly welcome visitors to the town by the desert, and Lodo's dyed fur, paw tattoos, and the long scimitars hang either side of her belt didn't help matters. The mercenary paused by a cart of freshly imported fruits to wonder if the few copper pieces she currently owned would earn her one when a sharp movement and a flash caught the corner of her eye. Fighting reflexes kicked in; Lodo immediately spied the dagger in the old merchant's paw despite the mouse's attempts to keep it concealed behind his loose robe's sleeve. As the surge of adrenaline wore off and she realized there was no imminent threat, she noted the merchant's other paw. Covering the earthenware jar of profits on his stand.
Lodo snorted. "Likewise, grayfur," she muttered, hoping with a twinge of wicked vengefulness that he'd heard her.
