This is the first journal entry and summary of the first session of my current campaign in Dungeons and Dragons. There's a lot of ground to cover in the way of introductions for those who haven't played D&D, so sit tight.
Dungeons and Dragons is a tabletop Role Playing Game. It is your standard fantasy setting with most actions determined by dice roll. It contains your typical fantasy kitchen sink: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, Magic, etc. The version my group is playing is 3.5 edition, which only has meaning for those who play. The difference between editions is only in rules though, and this story doesn't rely heavily on gameplay mechanics.
Our current campaign takes place on a different plane than normal. In D&D, planes are basically alternate realities that work on different laws of physics than our own. Typically, normal physics rules apply outside of magic. However, as will be learned later, this isn't that plane.
So far, there are two races involved in the campaign: Humans and Lupins. Humans are your standard fare, they get no bonuses and they're basically how other countries see Americans. Lupins are the wolf-people of the game. They're more of a tribal people who are in touch with nature and encouraged to explore and meet new people.
I believe that's all that needs explaining for now. This journal entry is written a while after the events it describes, being written a little after Rall obtains his journal.
Also, for those who know me or suspect something, the oasis was the Dungeon Master's idea.
