Surprise GiftArt made for
t-howl as he carried me for my 9/9 Gold CMs on my shaman a couple months ago. As he changes his character's equipment design every other day, I just went with what he wore the say I decided to draw his WoW toon for a reference. IIRC, the armor in the pic is the Shaman Season 9 PvP set. The weapons are S9 axes too, I think.
It was originally going to have his char in Garrosh's boss room in the Orgrimmar raid, but I felt that there was faaar too much red as is in the pic (and would be harder to contrast). Additionally, there was very little space with his char taking up so much of the canvas to really show that he is in SoOrg, that I decided to try something else instead.
Anyway, I am finally done with this after two months worth of procrastination. I have definitely spent too much time working on this (I should have completed this within two weeks tops, two months is an unacceptable pace for me).
Broke some new ground as I have attempted a serious detailed digital color artwork with actual shading rather than my usual cel shaded works. I used the greyscale overly technique to color this (draw main pic in B/W, use overlay/multiply/add layers on top to color it).
Definitely need to work on light sources and composition. But I am somewhat satisfied with the results as I sorta figured out how to execute and get the composition effect I like in some greyscales. I really liked how the shading of the muzzle looks, definitely want to recall how I got that effect.
I've learned to do the greyscale work COMPLETELY first (and mess with colors only when its done), also learned not to use so many damn layers (seriously I had like 150 different layers at one point) especially the main greyscale (I can at least use extra layers for lighting effects though). And most of all, I've learned to experiment with more paint brushes for various looks (the metal and gold parts of the pic was done with a combination of 4 different brushes). Next time I will try to work on composition and getting the designs right in greyscale before I even dare color -- that and limit myself to 5 layers tops for greyscale. >_>;
If anyone can help me with light sources and composition (namely the effect I want is something like http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12091092/ ), that'd be great.
Anyway, I hope my friend enjoys this(and the rest of you, of course). Doing this pic was a good learning experience for me. I've already made plans for two new drawings (and finish a 3rd pic I've got on backlog).
BTW, I do have a incomplete 'nude' version that I'll put in scraps. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14159271/
