In A Land of legends ,carols and bedtime stories, there was a bright, starlit winter sky, as young and fresh as the land it embraced. It is a night that will be forever remembered for many things, many happy things. But it would never be remembered for this, for so thick was the night's shroud over this particular story that it would be forever lost to mortal reckoning and history itself.
The cold chill in the icy wind through an open window brushed against the Navy blue fur of the fearless Head strong fairy Royal prince Cain.
It was just an ordinary night. The moon and stars glowed brightly over legendale, and everyone was happy. Everyone except Prince Cain. You would probably think that his life as a Prince would be perfect, but even he felt pain. Pain that stung like a dagger, and that was always there, no matter what. Sometimes he would cry himself to sleep, remembering his brother. But December was a month prince Cain had not been looking forward to, and never would look forward to. It was the Birth date of the royal brothers Damien & Cain, and everyone was celebrating, not for the ending of winter , but for the Birthdays of there beloved Leaders. This day was known as Day of the Phoenix. . .
The lone prince walked slowly through the empty halls of his castle , He listened to the echoing of her paws bustling on the floor of the hallway.
The castle was so big, every room cavernous compared to the nobles who roamed it. It scared him... yet it was the only thing he could call home. he felt like he had always been here. Always been alone.
he tried to look out of the windows lining one side of the hallway, but he could see nothing outside. Frost as white as the deepest snow covered every window, every door. he could not escape.
This place was more of a prison than anything.
he sighed, his breath distinctly visible in the frigid air. he continued to walk, aimlessly searching for some form of life... some form of hope.
He stopped entering his chambers to his sleeping quarters. a this time of year Cain sought comfort in being alone.
the fairy God perched upon the window seat of his sleeping quarters peeping outside his curtains of the castle from his bedroom. the loud resounding cheers from outside irritated him. celebrations of the coming of there leaders & winter festive annoyed him more then anything else.
Every December it was the same. Damien this, Damien that , everything was for Damien. Cain gazed out his open window taking in the fame & praise his brother received from there subjects out in the Castle gardens.
these December festivities & celebrations which had become rather famous since he & his brother Damien founded the Kingdom of legendale over a thousand years ago. had become very dully & irritating for Cain to be forced to bask in his brothers shadow while his subjects & even his little brother Ivan & little sister Daffodil favored the older brother as-well.
Cain's spiky mane blew in the wind, there he saw patches of clouds bringing in frozen rain for winter. While his eyes were currently fixed on the Solstice celebrations being held before him , An empty tear snuck silently down Cain's right cheek .
it not like they would care anyway." he huffed to himself.
" All they care about is Damien every time December comes around It's always a total nightmare" Cain growled at the thought his brother tensing his fists eying him from his bedroom window.
" what was so great about him."
He was the one risking his life on the battle fields while all Damien did was sit around the kingdom & give advice. in fact Damien has rarely ever seen the thundering fields of battle . If then not at all. Damien always came off Cocky toward him.
according to Cain all Damien cared about was himself. He never let Cain do what he wanted unless he had his brothers approval. Cain was different he detested the royal Lifestyle & felt as if he got nothing from it from his brother not even a Thank you for his laboring trials on the front lines.
a few years ago Cain Came to Damien one day desiring a kingdom of his own.
Cain plan to rule his own republic but Damien (His brother) felt that it would divide the Kingdom they created centuries ago. & forbade it.
Damien felt that it would cause problems & divide there diarchy. Cain was determined in ways to lead his own dreams & destiny . away from his brother. & thought it would be a chance to start new. But Damien rejected his little brothers rational decision to break from the diarchy. & told him that they work better when in Unison then divided.
Prince Damien got the glory fame & fortunes of the riches & atmospheres that came with the responsibilities of leader ship. In-fact the presence of his brother around this time of year was enough to make his skin crawl.
what did he get for risking his life on he battle field ? Nothing. aside from the friendly gestures & small celebrations his Kermrades always arranged for him during this time of year.
but even they never payed any attentive s toward him unless he spoke first. Cain felt his Army of solders were the only ones whom cared about his feelings or kinda but not quite.
Cain grew tedious & fed up with the bitter chills & traditions & festivals of December every year he was un noticed he was casted aside like a pile of dust bunnies while his brother basked in the rays of Worship & rejoice.
"Cain ?" a voice asked, breaking the prince out of his trance and train of thoughts. He turned and saw his older brother , Damien , standing by his Chamber doors, with it slightly open. Damien peered over at his brother seated on the window seat.
"Haven't you ever heard of knocking?" Cain asked, bitterly, turning his head away from his brother.
"Yes, I have," Damien answered. "But I knew you would not answer, so I just let myself in. I hope that's alright."
Cain looked at Damien angrily. "Well, it's not alright, so you can just go away now!"
Damien sighed. "My dear brother, you know I am always there for you, right?"
Cain slowly nodded.
"Then I don't see why you cannot tell me what's the matter," Damien said. "I want to be there for you , but I cannot if you are just going to push me away."
"You wouldn't understand," Cain said flatly. "You're the perfect prince the chosen one . You can do no wrong! Not to mention, all our subjects adores you, while most of our subjects would prefer me dead!"
"Cain, that's not true—"
"It's true and you know it!" Cain interrupted. "Everyone hates me!" A few tears started to fall down cheek as he yelled. "Everyone . . . hates me.
Damien sighed.
" now go enjoy the rest of our Birthday party, brother?" An irritated Cain retorted.
" It's your Birthday too" Damien reminded.
" No, it's not I can never have anything to myself." Cain angrily continued " the reason people remember my Birthday is because I share it with you, everything that has happen has always been because of you. "
Damien approached his brother gazing out into the night through his open window as he perched in posture upon his window seat trying to ignore his brother standing in his room.
Damien neared Cain his bright red robes dragging the floor Cain's sleeping quarters.
"It's alright, Cain , everything's alright."
"E-Everything is n-not alright, Damien , a-and you know i-it." Cain barked back angry.
"I know of your troubles ," Damien said, calmly. "I know what you have been through & I know how you feel."
"H-How do you know?" Cain asked, still crying. "How do you know?"
"I don't," Damien answered, truthfully.
"Exactly!" Cain said, raising his voice a little. "You know nothing of my feeling & the pain I feel when I'm near you.
"I know," Damien said, smiling trying to keep an optimistic tune about him . "How about you tell me about it."
Cain looked at his brother. his eyes sternly locked on him. " No!" Cain sternly & flatly finalized. But Damien pestered his brother protestant with helping him. He asked again.
" Please brother.? let me help you.."
But Cain by this time was angered by his brothers presence before him. as if he came here just to gloat of his fame & presents he had received on there Birthday.
"Get Out,!" Came Cain's reply
" You have hundreds of subjects you haven’t spoken to all season , Cain. Damien became firm telling off his brother after being rudely scolded.
Let me help you. talk to me. whats wrong. "?
“Out, Brother!” Cain screamed. “Out! Out! Out! I never wish to see your face again!”
And a wave of solid dark magic released from Cain's anger hit him, catching Damien completely by surprise. It threw him out from the Fuhrer's chambers, and into the corridors, slamming the doors shut behind him as he flew. Slowly, sadly, Damien got to his paws, winded by the blow, but otherwise unharmed.
“I’m sorry, Cain,” he said.
He gave the doors to Cains chambers one final forlorn glance and sighed, praying silently as the adored prince retreated back to the winter celebration .
Cain turned toward the open window raising his paw a wave of solid cerulean magic slammed his chamber windows wide open the icy winds from the night nipped at Cains face flapping his blue bat like wings Cain leaped out of his bedroom window & took off into the infinite cold winters sky.
Cain had ascended into the darkness. worry crept his mind for his little brother watching as Cain flew into the distance until he was no bigger then a tiny blue dot.
Cain had flown far from his castle home to a snow covered hill. in the distance Cain could see the castle. but at-least he was away from it all. the constant reminder that gnawed deep into Cain the reminder of being un wanted. Why can't he just seek his own desires.
Cain slowly touched down upon the frosty snow covered hills. kicking up snow like powder as he gently descended. landing on the hill he folded his wings & gazed out into the night. he took a deep breath & sighed.
Damien s doing a good job himself theirs no need or place for me here." Cain sobbed.
Clutching his scruff Cain pulled from his robes a small photo of Chilla . he smiled of the image of Chilla looking back at him with a friendly grin.
" Happy Hanukkah My Dear. " Cain traced the image with his paw. his heart pounding as he smiled trying to hide these sudden gooey feelings turning in his stomach. Cain always enjoyed Chillas company around the December season. Cain never showed interest in Girls as he thought that a relationship would distract him from his royal duty. Cain was discipline & never let these feelings get the better of him. he was much more stern then that. despite these strange feelings Cains heart told him differently
" Your the only one around here who cares. I can't wait to see you again." he clutched the Picture to his heart silently sobbing as the gentle cold winds of the night creased through his fur.
But who here would ever understand
That the Fairy King with the skeleton grin
Would tire of his crown, if they only understood
He'd give it all up if he only could
Oh, there's an empty place in my heart
That calls out for something apart
The fame and praise come year after year
Does nothing for these empty tears
