An Adventurer's Success
Aleutia has found herself in the possession of a sea urchin -- the treasure she was seeking! As a long day of exploration comes to a close, she carries her urchin and prodding drift wood stick back for further examination (of course she will put them back afterwards ;) ). For a moment, she gets to bask in the vibrant colors of the sunset against the calm ripples of the ocean.
Set in Washington State, this piece is inspired by my childhood, both in location and character. I grew up a 15 minute walk from Puget Sound, where I was constantly fascinated with all of the odd creatures and objects I would find. I was never one to play too long in the water, there were too many things to find!

Okay, finally getting to write a comment on this awesome piece! First, the color. What initially got my attention was the green shade of the sky, and how it complements the warm shades of the sun set. The reds and yellows on the water are so beautiful and vibrant, and definitely reflects the sunset very well. The blue in contrast to the reds and yellow of the water is beautiful as well. Very bold, like I can imagine being there and seeing that sunset :).
The ‘swirly’ clouds are a great effect! Didn’t see how you did the clouds until I full-viewed. Also, same with the fur on Aleutia, the little white hairs add even more detail. I like the rocks under the water, and the little ripples around the ones poking above the surface. Such a wonderful scene, fun but also I can see how pleased Aleutia is with her time at the tide pool :).
