Actually, I think that Manjusha does know--she might not know the full extent, but I would imagine that she'd have the log. She can, however, deny that she thought he'd care or figure it out.
So, if she wants to get back at her mother, save the people who would be sacrificed, and (possibly) gain more power for herself... she could tell Amon that her mother has demanded that she turn over her lowest earners to the lizard dudes, which includes Amon, and that she's really quite sorry about it, but her mother is quite right in that the Amurescan won't notice.
Oh, and he has a day or so to clear out his stuff so the next one can move in.
It's a risky ploy, but it could work.

...of course if she DOES know and shows her mother the log, they'll most likely use it to blackmail Luther.
Amuresca is going to get involved one way or another though. Zakkra is clearly pulling this stunt of "sacrifice" to lure the Amurescans out in the open so he can attack them head on. Zakkra knows Luther won't let innocent civilians be slaughtered (since he's got a few years of intel on Luther's MO by watching him at Serwich) and will therefore intervene to protect the sacrifices.
...if I were Zakkra, I'd keep my hand in the affair hidden so that the Amurescans would suspect that this was a cut-and-dry Huudari treaty violation, and then induce the Huudari and Amurescans into full-blown armed conflict. This does two things: it may destroy Luther and his fleet entirely during the first phase (or finish him off when he's weakened), AND it will draw the Amurescan Crown's attention away from Serwich and to Shanivaar - ultimately paving the way for the Cathazra to eradicate all settlers on the Dark Continent.
In short: ITS A TRAP!
Hopefully Luther's learned enough about subterfuge and intrigue from Johannes (and living in Noble society) to see through this ruse and emerge alive and victorious. Amon and his connections at the Divine should make excellent spies, if properly motivated.

ohhh shit... didn't the comic mention something about amon being a low earner?
something about not having a customer in a while? (before the general of-corse)
i wonder if all the time with the general had bumped up his status from low earnings to average... i hope so, but i suspect not from the way the comic is leading.

i'm gonna be "that guy" and point something out that is probably even more gut wrenching than amon being the low earner ... but don't you all think that maybe the tigress that just had her baby would be the lowest earner? plus that rich bear dude wants to buy amon, and manjusha's mom already said to sell amon to him.... so yeah... i have a sick feeling we're about to have an orphan tiger baby.
I'm late to the party, (was out of town before getting to read this page), but I think Esha's probably safe. If you go back to when the deal was originally struck, it was the old and lame that were talked about. Also, while Esha might have been low-earning in the latter stages of her pregnancy, she has much more earning potential than Amon does now that she's back on the table. If it had to be one or the other, the smart business decision would be to cut Amon loose. (Although now that you've brought it up, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if more than one worker was sold from each house...)
There are levels of slavery. One can own and sell a slave but there might be a set of conditions for the treatment of slaves.
Plus - Amon might not always be a slave. If they can raise enought monies then they can buy their freedom (this happened a lot in Rome)

Man, I'd really hate to have her as a mother. And ooooohhh~ shit's about to go down. But I'm sort of a fan of that because I'm hoping Luther will swoop in just before they dump Amon into a volcano or something and save the day in all his manly, forty-something-year old glory.
This got me thinking. If Amon is sold off he'd be free from these nasty creatures. Now if he survies, say by the hands of Luther and or his new masters were killed in the process I would think he'd be free then. I just can't see Luther abandoning him. He might not admit it but it's obvious he cares about Amon.
