This is probably one of the coolest things I've actually seen on FA. I bet a bunch of people have been tricked by this!
The thing that breaks the illusion for me is the lack of shadowing around the underside of the muzzle and the nose. The lower claw needs shadows too. Also the darkest darks need to be pushed a little bit further around the head area in general and same with both of the claws. I think the overall contrast on the claws needs to be toned down a bit too.
But seriously that's splitting hairs. Compositing hand drawn elements into life is one of my favorite things ever and you've clearly got a knack for it. And this is old too, I bet you could do this perfectly now if you wanted to. Great job!

Wow! Thank you for the awesome comment. I completely agree with your critique. :) Though until now I hadn't really looked at this to see what was specifically wrong with it. There are lots of things I'd like to change... then again, it'd be interesting to make an entirely new piece. You're right, it is really fun!
