Ursulans: A Guide to the Guardians of the Earth
Being around for thousands of years, these bear-like guardians are in charge of the many caves, mountains, and other earth masses. They protect the land from harmful materials and uneeded predators, trying their best to create the ideal ecosystem for the greater good of Mother Nature. They are her guard dogs; doing what is told when it is said. These beings are on the verge of being reclusive. They wander and hide in shadows or the land they guard, doing what they can to preserve the area with a silent rebellion. Of course, this isn’t always the case. Ursulans are typically reserved and relaxed. Some, however, are out going and adventurous, while others are shy and reclusive. Personalities vary with the land they associate with. Colorations can vary from bright to dark hues. Their pelts change during seasons, but there is a RARE disease called F.F.S (a.k.a. Faux Fur Syndrome) where the Ursulan keeps its coloration throughout the year. These Ursulans are more reclusive, as their mutation is like a disease in the Ursuan culture.
Dietary Needs and Other Information:
The Ursulans are omnivorous beings that favor the fresh flavors of plants and berries. They also eat white and red meat, like chickens and cattle, for example. The Ursulans refrain from eating meat unless it is for ceremonial purposes. Because of this, they have a better sense of understanding towards their environment. Being omnivores is visible in their appearance and ways of living. The Ursulans have long claws on their fore and hind legs, using them to dig up roots or to protect themselves in danger. Their long snout makes eating berries or meat easy, as well as their sharp teeth. But, their tail is a different story. An Ursulan’s tail looks much like a pinecone. It’s used for expressing their feelings, mating rituals, and most importantly, their tail is used for gathering the souls of dead creatures in the ecosystem. The multiple ends act like petals on a flower; opening up to reveal a small orb at the center. This orb usually stays in place when the absorption of souls is “activated”. There have been cases where the orb goes above the forhead and absorbs that way (as shown above). This trait is fairly UNCOMMON. The Ursulan is basically a vaccuum for an exosystem; picking up excess or dead materials to clean the area up. They also, as mentioned multiple times, are guardians of their area. What they say goes.
Diseases and Traits:
F.F.S. : Faux Fur Syndrome, where coat color remains the same throughout seasons : RARE
Floating Orb: During absorption, orb floats above head: UNCOMMON
O.U.R. : Orbless Ursulan Restriction, where there is no orb on Ursulan : EXTREMELY RARE
-Ursulans are typcially eight to ten feet tall. They can be as tall as fifteen feet and as short as five feet. Anything more or less can dearly affect their life and that of their ecosystem.
Features on Ursulans and mating information
The typical Ursulan has a bear-like face, fuzzy ears and fur, fairly sturdy body, a hood (colored pink in the diagram above), and a pom-like tail. However, this isn’t always the case.
UNCOMMON features include: thicker or thinner fur, smaller or not as big tails, long snouts, big paws, and a tattered hood. These features occur, on average, in 4 out of 10 Ursulans. They don’t reside on any sex chromosome, so these features are really equal on both genders.
RARE features include: little to no hair, thin ears, short snouts, lithe and athletic builds, small paws, long and wispy tails, and cloak in place of their hoods. The cloak conceals the guardian more, which often increases the life of their environment. These features often occur in guardians of caves or other shadowed lands. Rare features occur in 2 out of 10 Ursulans. Like the UNCOMMON features, Rares occur in both genders. The only thing that is different is where the guardian is, as these physical characteristics happen to be in more Ursulans that live in shadowed areas , rather than places with a lot of light.
LEGENDARY features include: long legs, slim or macho build, no fur or very thick fur, long rounded ears, lengthy snouts, tiny paws, medium-lengthed tails, and capes in place of hood. These features are the original appearance of the first generation of Ursulans. Over time, their appearance has changed in correspondance with the world: going from long and elegant beings to short and sturdy guardians. These features occur in 1 out of 10 Ursulans. Unlike the other characteristics, these LEGENDARY features present themselves more in girls. It has been told the features have been present with the X chromosome, but that is debatable.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ursulans mate very rarely; approximately once every ten years. These mating seasons last for one month, consisting of rituals and fights against males. The females typically are the ones who get wooed, but they are allowed to participate in wooing any Ursulan of their will. Ursulans have no preference for mating. Believe it or not, these guardians mate by combinding portions of their land masses together. This mixture produces the cubs, who will live with their parents for the first hundred years of their lives. At their hundredth birthday, they are classified as adults and will guard their land alone, until they find their mate. When they do, the mated guard their lands together; using the combination of their abilities to keep the areas ecologically healthy and safe.
Cubs, as mentioned, are the result of two Ursulans mating. The gestation period lasts two years, and they can birth anywhere from one to four cubs. It is possible for premature Ursulans to be born, but there is a very low chance of that happening. The cubs mature as their land mass does; through the well-being of their parents. When the parents successfully raise the little cub to its adulthood, that Ursulan will be the guardian of its own land. Parents are required to be there for their offspring during the first decades of its life, to ensure the health and development of the Ursulan and it’s land. Without parents, the Uruslan’s land often gets acidic soil and the ecosystem crumbles, while the Ursulan itself recieves scars or becomes sick in health. Some cubs are able to overcome this , managing to produce strong and healthy cubs of its own.
