I am in the unfortunate position to tell that every subculture develops it's loud minority, whom then gets down as definition of said group. Let it be bronies, furries, fans of Tolkien, followers of certain ideas, religions, their antithesises - everyone and everything produces out things that said group gets associated with, even while most of them are actually modest.
