impressive work on Sailor Mars i am a big fan of Sailor Moon as well and my favorite sailor Scouts is Sailor Pluto and Sailor Mercury.

in short, Shrine Maidens kick ass.

Yeah, pretty much.

And all this does is remind me that she honestly had more character in the old series....ah well, it looks nice.

Her personality in the original anime was changed significantly from the manga.

The new anime is intended to be much more faithful to Takeuchi's manga, and thus Rei's character is a reflection of that.
While no less passionate, she is much more reserved, independent and precocious. She is more soft spoken and is very kind to and tolerant of Usagi.
Her character in the new show is just as rich.

I honestly don't see it so far and while it may be a bit cliché her being competetive and elitist right from the start was much more fitting for Mars, her patron. Maybe i could see her having just as much personality now, even if it was different from the original show (and yes i know that the show was a huge deviation from the manga), if there was any room to breath for the characters.
That's probably my biggest issue with the remake so far, the pacing. Sure, much of the old show was filler but it allowed us to get used to the characters and the characters to ....well have a character in the first place.
It took them 8 episodes to get to Mercur allowing us to get some sort of status quo, after that there only was one filler episode before Mars showed up but than again that was a two parter showing us a bit more about Rei before and after her awakening.
At the moment the show just goes "plop, new character" and due to that i've seen Rei only as another girl that well, has a differently colored school uniform than Usagi i guess.
I'm probably just nitpicky and have to get used to the new show but at the moment it just feels rushed.

Mars was always my favorite because she compensated for how stupid Serena was
