RIP Robin Williams
News just broke on the death of Robin Williams of an apparent suicide.
I know I said I will never do another memorial tribute cause I was sick of the trolls mocking these, But This was different. I had alot of respect for Robin Williams and deeply appreciated the man and his talent.
I was most fortunate to have seen him live a few years ago when he did his nationwide comedy tour and he stopped here in Madison. Row 2, center stage I sat. I was even sweated upon by him I was that close, and in so much pain from laughing so hard. He was in my opinion, THE best Improve and adlib comic standing and his humor nonstop. His voice work was always a delight. Studio execs knew to just give him a guildline and some Must be spoken lines and let him run with the rest, they knew they'd have gold.
I was thrilled that CBS placed him on The Crazy Ones, he was back in his element. And the fans and critics loved it. Though CBS Stupidly cancelled it. It brought on serious depression on Robin.
I am greatly saddened over his death, its such a waste he took his own life.
*Edit* added the great line from Dead Poets Society for the Genie, it seemed appropriate.

I gotta dig out my copy of Reality--What A Concept and play it on the Hi-Fi.
The TMI skit:
"The President wouldn't go in there if things were awry!"
"The President has the brains of a pissant, my lord!"
IMHO, his movie The Survivors spoofed the survivalist movement and mocked gun owners. It was a box office bomb IIRC.

Hmmm...
'A darkness seeped in during an interview with comedian Marc Maron in 2010, where Williams seemingly dismissed what would be a career highlight for many actors. "People say you’re an Academy Award winner," he said. "The Academy Award lasted about a week and then one week later, people went, ‘Hey Mork!’"'
Nope.

Oh man I had no idea @A@. I love Robin Williams, I can't believe he's gone p^q. I never saw him on stage, the only way I've known him is through his voice work and acting. I LOVED him as the Bicentinial Man. I remember when I first saw him it was Mork and Mindy, back when Nick-at-Night was around. I use to watch it with my parents right before Get Smart. I had no idea CBS canceled his new show.
He will be missed. Thank you Robin Williams for all the laughs.

You did a very good thing here Rabbi and to hell with the trolls. I first remember seeing him way back on Happy Days and when he got his first big break with Mork and Mindy. I remember many of his stage performances from video and I can say he was a man who truly cared about his art.
He may have been troubled by many demons, but he knew how to make us laugh. He will be sorely missed.

Robin Williams played an important role in drawing me out of my box when I was a kid and as a young adult, his more mature themed films asked some important questions of me that expanded my mind further. As an Adult, his movies are all cherished friends. I will miss Robin Williams and everything he represented through his work.
Acceptance, Smiles, Loyalty, Courage, and Adventure. I will fucking miss you mate.

This is some of the saddest news that I have heard in a long while. Robin was one of a kind, and he will be VERY much missed.
A fellow member of a My Little Pony: Friendship of Magic fanfiction site, FIMFICTION.net made the very insightful comment on learning of Robin's untimely death. I don't know if many of you here have heard of the Elements of Harmony from MLP, but Flicka said that if Robin was the living, human embodiment of one of them, it was the Element of Laughter. And I agree with her.
R.I.P. Robin. Safe Journey to you, dear, sir. We'll see you on the Other Side.

I grew up with Mork and Mindy, and watching his stand-ups. He was a great comedian and he could change on a dime. He was always a favorite with me and my family. He will definitely be missed.
On a tangent, I am also sorry you stopped doing memorials. I loved seeing them and really missed them as well. I am surprised that you let some punks stop you from something you love. In the words of you from earlier years gone by... "Fuck 'em!"

Jim, I was in an airport -- Springfield/Branson, about to fly back to Florida -- when I saw the news in the terminal.
The shock is still with me, but I am happy over all the tributes people are doing for him. Some of his animated work (Genie from Aladdin, Batty from Ferngully, etc.), others of his film work (Goodwill Hunting, Dead Poet's Society) and most of his comedic patter, wisdom and shtick. There was even one where someone had drawn Robin being met by his former good friend Christopher Reeves as his soul passed into heaven.
But it really makes me smile to see that you went against your former statement of never doing these one-panel tributes and did one for Robin. It shows -- to me anyway -- that you did enjoy how he made people laugh, how he loved performing and that no matter what, he was someone special to you, Jim.
From one fan to another, I said you did a good thing. Thank you, Jim. Thanks for helping me smile in spite of the world going a little darker when his light passed from us all.

It's amazing but not surprising at the outpour of love and grief and good memories from the members of FaceBook yesterday about Robin. One summed it up well (from my Fave movie "Aladdin") "Genie....You're FREE".
RIP Mr. Williams. I knew you had your demons and now you're at peace. ^^

Thank you for saying something, Jim. I had hoped you would. You n me are both jokster/tricksters at heart, and RW was right there in our hearts whenever we got silly and made folks laugh. Now, things are little more quiet. But I hear him deep inside, and he'll always be alive in a small way, echoing inside my head. *Lindz*
I admittedly had a very hard time coming here to see this. Of all of the different types of performers, I find comedians the most important because they help us laugh at ourselves. Robin Williams was no exception, except that in his case I understand the tremendous effort that those with bipolar have in trying to 'self medicate' so that they'd feel more 'normal'.
His death hit me hard, with an odd mixture of not being totally surprised and yet still unbelieving.
I feel that his death does indeed leave this world more bland, less vibrant, and more boring.
I picture him flying off like an illustration at the end of 'World According to Garp'.
I'll sorely miss you, Mr. Williams.

Do you suppose they buried him with those mouse ears he wore at the Academy Awards? The ones he wore when he was hopped up and doing the Dan Quayle bit? Even Tiny Toons picked up on that. He was great with cheap shots at Palin and Bush. Has anyone ever heard him mock Boxer, Feinstein, or Pelosi? He took the coward's way out.
