i was reading something about figure studies a while back, and it said that when drawing a human figure, our mind tends to draw "symbols" of what we see instead of what we're actually seeing. so instead of making a proper eye from what we're seeing, we draw what we think an eye looks like. however, inverting the reference image helps prevent the use of these "symbols", and instead you tend to draw the shapes as they actually are. it was a really cool experience! i found myself making decisions with my lines that i never would have been able to make if i had just been drawing right-side up. highly recommend!!!
