There are in fact some people who do want to hear how you really are. They are few and far between, and I am (for most people, although I can often listen felicitously) not one of them, but they're out there and I do hope you have some.

It's all fake ritualized concern where any answer below 'fine' is unacceptable, just like "if there's anything I can do, just ask" is a fake offer to never be cashed. No one is ever going to say: "I really can't figure out how to get my life back together, but maybe if the dishes, clothes and bathroom were clean it would help", because that's just pathetic and a real friend would know to do that without being asked. It's all appearances, like the sentiments following a suicide, of which Robin William's is a good example, by colleagues and friends who couldn't be arsed to check in on him. Oh, I'm sure they cared, just not enough that he felt it, when he needed it.

Or maybe I'm just projecting, but I agree with the picture.

Awww if you need sombody to talk to there are alot in the world I'm one i love to help any one in any why I can i love to chest people up and make thim feel better so if you need help let me know i care for even thows I don't know so i will lissen thin try to help if you want it :) there are good people out there and you know a few :) hehe

It's true. No one likes to hear how you really feel. Even friends that are there for you don't like to know that you're hurting, but they put that aside to support you. That's how you can gauge a true friend. They don't vanish at the first sign of distress.

No one is to strikt from my experience. But most people do not want to know a real answer and just wait for the society conform answer: "Thanks for asking, I'm fine. How are you?"
