Oh man, this commission was supposed to be me trying to do digital painting BUT then my computer crapped out and I couldn't get it fixed and am still not sure when that will happen but the commissioner was totally cool with letting me change it over to traditional. :D
Took the original sketch I was going to use for the digital painting, transferred it to watercolor paper with a lightbox and went from there with India inks. This is quite a bit larger than than other stuff I've been working on, but was kind of a special case. Actual size is about 8x10 inches (some is cropped off the bottom in the scan just cause it looked better that way.)

Right now i am very, very happy that this wound up as real media. I mean gosh, I know I've told you how much I love your water colors but the SOFTNESS of the image is absolutely surreal. From the wisps of color coming from Zal's paws to the blends of pinks and purples in the clouds to the golden glow off Zal's cheeks and shoulders. Pastels are some of my favorite colors and this painting is just alive with them.
The textures, your fantastic use of whites, gah. I am really truly honestly so incredibly, incredibly happy with this. Absolutely one of my favorite pieces. I cannot thank you enough.

So happy you like it! When it arrives, you'll see the more subtle tones and blending that the scanner wasn't able to pick up. Thanks so much for being understanding to my computer woes/unpredictability and letting me go ahead with traditional! That certainly lifted my worries. :)
Oh wow… the beauty you captured here…. I just love the mixture of the colors in that sunset or sunrise… the character blends so elegantly with the clouds, and his face is so soft and peaceful… but thew ay the sky reflects on the river and casts its colors onto the snow on the mountaintops… you are just amazing with lighting and backgrounds. I love this!
This is MIND boggling amazing and I'm SO GLAD you went with traditional- even though it was coincidence!
I am stunned... the merging of the figure and the clouds are SEAMLESS. That landscape is also eqaully stunning, and once again you proved your mastery of your craft.
