
I almost forgot about this painted feather! This was a commission that was a gift, and as such I waited until the person gave it to the recipient so I wouldn't ruin the surprise online...except I totally forgot to post it months after >.>
This piece has actual iridescent and interference paint, which as always is impossible to see in a scan (also the blues are richer but blues and purples are my scanner's sworn enemy :| )

I attach the feathers together with a bookbinding glue (acid-free and dries clear), then I spray the feathers with fixative to help keep the veins together. The first layers of paint are very thin to act like a bit of a 'glue', and then I can be a bit more 'rough' when painting.
