You really shouldn't give fly traps anything bigger than the trap is. They can't digest it properly when you do. Just make sure you only use distilled water when you water it too... VFTs can be a pain in the arse to care for.

No. You really need to get some distilled water. It's cheap enough at any supermarket. You can get a gallon for a dollar or so. But if you use regular water (even well water) it will kill it. Too many minerals and nutrients. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I know a fair bit about these little cuties, as I've owned a few over the years.
The most important advice I can give is this...
First.. Don't trigger the traps needlessly. Each trap can only close between 3 - 5 times before it will die and fall off. If you over-trigger them, then it can kill the planet from having nothing to eat with and no living stems to suck in the water with. Second, it's important to keep them out of direct sunlight. A nice shady spot where they can get indirect sunlight is best. Third , whatever you do, do NOT replant it unless you have PEAT MOSS... Not Peat Soil.. not regular soil.. specifically Peat Moss. If you want to replant it so it has room to grow, I recommend buying a proper cage for it online. A cage is just a special planter specifically for VFTs. You can usually get kits with or without seeds online, and if it's like mine, it will come with a special kind of dehydrated soil that you can get to plant it in. The trap will eventually grow to the size of the cage, as they like to spread out when they have room.
If there's anything else you want to know, just shoot me a note. :) I'll be happy to answer any questions at all.
