Looking away from his situation the heightened sensory is informing him he not alone in the pasture. Although the idea of luck is a personal perspective, as in this case the wearer seems preoccupied with other thoughts than to fret about the loss of his link to humanity.
Detail and coloring is good, the eye could use more definition, even a remaining stroke of color to remind the viewer this was once a blue eyed young man looking for a change in his luck!
