A list compiled by me from bottom to top, these are the animes that I recommend you get into if you're looking for something zebra approved. Some are on dvd, some are on Netflix, some are coming out again in a reboot or a remake, but they're all worth it, and works I have found to be true to the elements of what make a story good.
12. RANMA ½
11. SAILOR MOON
10. FRUITS BASKET
9. CHOBITS
8. RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
7. BLACK LAGOON
6. SWORD ART ONLINE
5. NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (Rebuild)
4. SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN
3. FINAL FANTASY: ADVENT CHILDREN

Haven't seen any Fruits Basket or Stein's Gate, but I've seen all or some of the others. Not a bad list.
I liked the first season of Sword Art Online quite a bit. Unfortunately the second season was a major disappointment.
I just watched Haibane Renmei for the first time not too long ago, and I really liked it. It was done by the same people who did Lain. Kinda low key, like Kino's Journey, which I also really like.
The first Tenchi Muyo series still holds up as one of my favorites.

Sorry about the lateness of my reply. You've probably already looked up what Haibane Renmei is about, but in case you haven't I'll give it a shot.
It's about these beings, called Haibane, who look like angels, with small wings and halo's, who hatch from cocoons. They live in a walled city where their presence is accepted by the townspeople, but they aren't supposed to leave the city. It mosty follows a new haibane named Rakka and her daily life, learning the ways and customs of the city and at the abandoned school where the other haibane live. In particular her relationship with the haibane Reki. It's a quiet, I guess you could say, character driven anime. It's all about the interactions with the characters more than action. And it leaves a lot of questions unanswered (like: where do the haibane come from, but that's fine by me.) I thought it was a nice change of pace. I'll have to watch it again sometime.

Nice list! I'll be honest though, half of those shows I haven't seen. My favorite anime are as follows:
10. Slayers
9. Dragon Ball Z Movie 8: Broly
8. Toriko
7. Beast Warriors Gulkeeva (An obscure guilty pleasure of mine XD)
6. G Gundam
5. GaoGaiGar
4. Macross 7
3. Redline
2. Saint Seiya
1. Mazinkaiser
As you can see, I prefer Shonen action series and super robot shows. Saint Seiya is a favorite of mine, but I just like Mazinkaiser more.

The plot of the first episode.
In the summer of 2010, self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarō Okabe goes to Doctor Nakabachi's seminar on time travel with his friend, Mayuri Shiina. While there, he meets a girl named Kurisu Makise who explicitly states that he had met her 15 minutes ago, despite having never seen her before. After bluffing his way away from Kurisu, Okabe then receives a mysterious video message on his phone that is scrambled when he opens it. Later on, Okabe hears a scream and sees Kurisu lying in a pool of blood with signs that she was stabbed to death. As he sends a text about it to another one of his research buddies, Itaru "Daru" Hashida, Okabe has a strange experience, finding the street he is on has suddenly become deserted and a strange satellite has crashed into the building he was just in. Later on, while fiddling with their strange remote-controlled microwave oven, which turns bananas into a gel-like substance, Daru tells Okabe that the seminar he supposedly attended was cancelled, much to his surprise. Okabe later discovers that the text he sent to Daru had been sent a week ago, just before encountering Kurisu, who is alive and well.

Ranma is on bluray now. Vol 2 and 3 so far. Sailor Moon is being released on bluray in December. Dunno if I'll buy Sailor Moon, but I am buying Ranma (when I can)

I've seen Vol. 1 and 2, haven't heard a release date on 3. I'm buying it because I've never seen all of Ranma before, it was so hard to get it all on VHS and such. Since I don't have it on dvd, this is a good way to catch up.
Sailor Moon... If it's in English, maybe. I have season 3 and 4 on the Geneon releases... And one and 2 in Japanese only because they included the episodes the US series wouldn't dub. I wonder if the new Sailor Moon will be all inclusive? I assume it's the classic, not the remake of Sailor Moon, Crystal, I think it's called?
Wolf's Rain is good, I do wish they hadn't done so many clip show episodes, I think they did like, four? I could be misremembering though.

It will be uncut, with a new english dub.
Viz is offering the franchise without edits in its original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, with the original Japanese names, story elements, and relationships. It is also producing an uncut English dub with a new voice cast.

Opinions are fine, but I think you should consider when expressing that opinion that rather than saying it was terribly written and offensive that you just didn't care for it. How you say things matters. While I have no issue with someone not liking it, saying it is terribly written and offensive, both things I strongly disagree with, I am going to respond in its defense. All I'm saying is you can express your opinion without being offensive in turn.
