The dark furred bat landed lightly and stretched out, trying to relax his muscles from the flight. He glanced around and quickly made his way to the house where his partner, Mika, lived. He knocked on the door and waited. It wasn't long before the lovely 'young' vampire answered.
"Theo," Mika said, hugging the bat happily. "I was wondering where you've been."
She kissed him.
"How did your last expedition go?"
Thoe smiled despite wincing slightly as Mika's hands touched his back. He peered at her over the small round glasses he wore.
"It went great, Love," he said. "I found some really exquisite gems that I was able to sell at the collectors market."
Theo pulled away from Mika and turned around to unbutton his vest and shirt.
"In fact, I made enough to get some more work done on my back."
Theo slipped off his top, showing Mika who gasped. A large tattoo of a steampunk dragon looked back at her. It started just between his wings, and coiled down to end above his belt line. The detail on it was amazing. Cogs and gears seemed so realistic, and the dragon's eyes appeared to sparkle as the beast hissed out steam. Gently Mika traced a finger around the edge of the tattoo.
"That's really starting to look good, Theo."
The bat chuckled.
"I don't think it'll ever truly be finished," he said.
Mika chuckled as well. For as long as she had known Theo, he was always getting his tattoo touched up with new details. She didn't mind though. It was a masterpiece, and it made her partner happy to see it evolve. Theo put his shirt and vest back on and looked at Mika. The vampire kissed him again and took hold of his hand.
"Come on in," she said, leading Theo inside. "I have a fresh pot of coffee brewing, and you can tell me all about your adventure."
Theo nodded. He had a beautiful partner, and a job that he enjoyed. Life couldn't get much better than this...
