Here you can see the new cheek plate and the flange strap that runs forward along the bottom of the frame rail. Yes having an old truck with well over 600,000 miles has it's draw backs...
The crack that we were fixing started an inch and a half behind the spring hanger and had run across the bottom flange and almost to the top flange if it had broken all the way it would have stranded me on the road. This repair is 1/4 inch plate that was mig welded in place by a friend of mine because of my back injury I couldn't do it myself.
I think this will hold together for a while and I can get everything together to put a better frame under my poor old Toyota... For those wondering what year it is, it's a 1979 first year of the factory 4x4 and the old girl has over 600,000 miles on it. I can almost say it's had 650,000 miles on it because the speedo has been broken for the last 8 or 8 years now I think it is. The truck had 170,000 miles on when I got it 27 years ago.

can't kill a toyota. Top Gear (UK) put one on a building, then demolished the building underneath it....and they got it to start afterward using only simple tools...(and they previously washed it out to sea on high tide, and dropped a couple pianos on it and set it on fire too)
