They use a heating and cooling unit in a reactor. The fill the tubes with radioactive rods, usually plutonium, and dunk them in a reservoir filled with water, creating steam without causing overheating.
I never understood why they didn't put thermal couplings in the unit itself to gather even MORE energy...

But for just assembling the part itself, that would be the correct gear. For setting it up to run, not so much.
