With the shake of his spirit rattle the veil of realities part, and the rat shaman passes into the spirit world. The gray of the living world is overwhelmed by the colorful shadows of the ether. This is the realm where the shaman is most powerful, and by affecting the dark matter of spirit, he makes changes in reality.
This was supposed to be just a charcoal, and the first thought was to do it on a piece of colored pastel board (which I did not have). I had planned to use watercolor or ink wash to color said board. Then it hit me, why stop there. Why not use said wash to create a ethereal and or a lighting effect... And this is what happened.

That is the wonderful thing about the spirit world, spiritualism. It appears as it needs to to those that interact with it. That is why it is not a science. My antomy of the cosmos appears differently to me, then yours would. Yet, they are equally valid, equally important, and equally connected. *Grin*
A science is something that has predictable, regular, and repeated outcomes based on observation and experiment.
Shamanism, while some aspects have predictable, regular, and repeated outcomes, much of it can not be observed by two different individuals and result in the same description or experience. The foundation will appear the same, but the details will be different. This is because we are dealing with both the limits of the individual mind and the interpretations of ethereal experiences with in trance like state of meditation. We as individuals perceive the inner universe through lens on the minds eye shaped by radically different events, beliefs, and experiences. No two lens are the same, so no two journeys through the spirit world will be identical, even if they followed the same path and interacted with the same spirits. YET, the out come (in spite of the differences, and if successful) you be somewhat predictable. Like weaken a illness so medication in the Real World can have a better effect, self transformation by altering self perception, and changing the out come of minor events through gently plucking the strings that tether out collective reality together.
Now as general warning: From my personal experiences it is better to just let the universe work things out in its own way. Messing with the spirit world can mess with you. There is often a price, a toll of some sort for to much meddling, and usually your sanity is the first things the spirit world likes to make bids on... I was once told, "Worry not about the world of spirits, for you will have plenty of time to experience it when you die."
Advice I took to heart.

That is a loaded question, and one of the reasons I rarely ever talk about this stuff...
I am into the study and ecstatic experiences of spirituality, and religion. I have experienced many different ways to connect with the mystical, the holy, and the spiritual. I have found while different they all have a place and a purpose to help us deal with the traumatic, and they all are valid and important to those that need them. If you were to give me any sort of title, it would be ecstatic spiritualist, or "Shaman". I studied many years and had several actual medicine men teachers. Though, I don't often practice my ways as I once did; yet by simply living life I find it more ecstatic, and fulfilling then any thing I ever did in a trance state, or zooming around in the spirit world.
I got my answers, and understand to a point... Now I have more important things to do, like Art.

I don't know, I thought that question was pretty silly and hilarious. :P I really like your explanations in this post, though. Who thought this image would generate such deep discussion on a fur forum. :) Seeing your thoughts, though, it would be cool to see more spiritual art--or even blog posts--that explore some of what you have experienced. I know I would be fascinated to learn more about them.
You must do what you feel is right.... As I said above, its just better to let things work them selves out. All events and decisions in life is like a river, in which you have thrown a stone. The stone/decisions cause ripples yes, but the current/life soon smooths the water to its normal coarse. Diving into the river to remove the stone you just threw may result in a drowning (in other words, make a bigger scene then the initial embarrassment)...
There was no need to feel guilty.
