I'm not a gun expert, but it makes sense to me that, even though a guns potential precision lessens the shorter the barrel is, if one is carrying a handgun as their only firearm into a life or death combat situation, long range target situations are bound to come up ... optimal firearm or not.
As such, having the ability to quickly determine EXACTLY where the gun is aiming (as opposed to loosely eyeballing it off the sight flag/tab/whatever it is called), to adjust for arc and motion lead properly, would Significantly increase ones chances of HITTING ones target at long range ... even if the guns accuracy is too poor to control WHERE on the target you hit it at that range.
