Commission for phantomfullforce of his moth-fox lady, Spectre! He wanted me to show some sort of motion but.. that's something I've never incorporated in a piece before, so I really didn't know how other than adding a motion blur to her wings. ._. I apologize if I missed the mark but I literally didn't know what else I could do to show motion. D:
For once I used a background other than a grunge texture.. haha whaaat. BG is from http://aurorawienhold.deviantart.co.....rost-344909569

Of course I cant speak for the commissioner's preferences specifically, but something to get you in the idea of 'motion', is really just an object in motion. A lot of the time, a picture will be done with a character in some sort of stationary pose. Sitting, standing, all sorts of creative things, but in all it gives the idea of stillness.
Now what if a character were drawn running? With the legs splayed dramatically to carry the body forward, and the spine bent slightly forward for aerodynamics. Or a character like this, drawn flying? Something perhaps like peter pan in form, with the wings splayed like a soaring bird, and the background is blurred in a particular direction to show that, though the picture is still, it's only a frame in a moving scene.
Also don't forget to find references for things you aren't sure on! If you're not sure what it could mean to add motion to a picture, look up similar keywords in FA or DA's search bars and see what comes up as examples. ^-^

Well I mean, I understand the concept of objects in motion but I just have no idea how to use special effects in Photoshop to mimick the motion blur in a believable way. Like with the wings I put the blur on, I wish I knew how to like.. multiply the wing edge a bit so it shows a bit of a trail behind it. And maybe I should have blurred that furthest hand and the back of her in general a bit to show her moving forward? I'm not sure. I'm always afraid (and lazy) to experiment with effects, haha fail. But yes I definitely should have looked up some references for ideas.. I usually do.. just now I tried to search for "flying," "motion," "motion blur" and I'm not really finding anything. I hate when I need to find refs for something specific but they're nowhere to be found under the keywords I search for, haha ;-;
Oh and I finally stopped being lazy (again lazy and afraid to fiddle with PS effects lol) and sort of figured out how to add the painting options to my price guide.. haha thank you for the motivation! It took some time and it's a little bit inconsistent with the rest of the sheet, but it works! XD
The extra slot fits great, good job <3
Probably the best thing to do is just fiddle with sketches and splotches in between commissions so you can broaden what you feel comfortable offering. ^-^ Also maybe try on DA looking up things with the word 'tutorial' like motion tutorial or something of the sort.
But like, fiddle something basic and splotchy on a canvas, and just start playing with a bunch of brush/layer/effect options you've never really thought about using before. Unfortunately I no longer have photoshop or I'd be more specific with things you could try. ^^;
