It seems as if Tannis got himself hypnotized by someone who has it in for both him and Rodent.
Tying the rat to a stick of dynamite, Tannis is then compelled to stick it in his mouth and light the rather short fuse.
Given the look of alarm on Rodent's face, I suspect he's not going to be able to act quickly enough, to try to snap Tannis out of this trance. :D
