Here is my assignment description: "The werewolf species is a complex blend of human level intelligence and animal instinct. At times the lines between human an animal become blurred with individual werewolves choosing to sway heavily in favor of one or the other. Whether this behavior is the result of a crisis of identity or simply the preference of a werewolf for a simpler, more animalistic life, these individuals almost always choose to forego their bipedal stance to fit in with their quadrupedal brethren. It is not unheard of for such werewolves to secure a position in a standard wolf pack, though uncommonly ascending to alpha position despite their formidable strength and intellect."
I've been wanting to show the difference, to me, between regular wolves and a werewolf in a quadruped form. To me they would be noticeably different. Can you pick which one of these beautiful creatures is the werewolf? I thought you could ;) I decided to go with one of my Kierrn interloping into a wild pack of wolves in a remote area. It would take a lot to get a pack of wolves to accept a werewolf, but it could be done.
Acrylic on 12" X 16" Illustration board.
The original is available. Message me if interested. Prints will be available March 2015!

WOW. This just might be my ultimate fave piece from you so far. I love subtle werewolves like this and the concept behind this image is fantastic. As is the art itself, I love your acrylic paintings and the level of detail and pleasant colours in this one truly astonish me.
"One of these wolves is not like the others... One of these wolves just doesn't belong... Can you see which one it is?"
Yes, a werewolf just isn't going to be mistaken for canis lupus. Now if there were Dire wolves around; that would be the logical groups for werewolves to associate with since the build of the animals is similar and they wouldn't attract a lot of attention then. (Yes, I still have your extensive work on Dires, some place on my systems)
hehehe It's not all that odd, that I have a close relation with old Smilidon. As I was telling Coyote once; the lights are on but no one appears to be home right now. Doesn't mean Smilie cat is gone; might just be off in the Dreamtime for a while.
Is amazing how resilient the werewolf concept is - something just identifies strongly with the idea of human wolves or wolven humans.
And then there are those of us who have never been human before this life - lord it's hard work at times trying to act like a human.
I will be sure to get a calendar this year. Things are going better now and I'm not consumed by stress over bills.

Glad you like my Kierrn ^.^ I have big things planned for them coming very soon, starting with a series of (romance) novels, and then some not-romance novels, and an actual book about the Kierrn, with illustrations of course ;) I will be making announcements here when I am close to publishing (probably Winter/Spring 2015)!
Now here's a concept I kinda like but never see. The werewolf interacting with normal wolves, what do they think of him, do they notice the difference? And how does he feel about having human level intelligence around them, does he feel weirdly unable to connect with them, unable to relate to creatures who have only the simplest means of communication?
Or does he feel like a god among mortals, does it make him all puffed up and superior feeling? Is that why he's living with them?
Oh, and to answer the question, ignoring all the differences in musculature, build, demeanor, and thumbs giving it away, I'd have to say the most obvious clue would be the werewolf is dead center in the "I am obviously the most important one here" position.

Actually the wolf intellect would be superior to the human intellect. Humans are an arrogant species who simply think they are the most intelligent species on earth. Humans decided the means of testing intelligence. Humans decided what defined intelligence. Humans decided they were the most intelligent species on earth. Never once having a group discussion or group agreement with every other species on earth.
Humans have the lowest intelligence in many areas where animals rank very high, particularly wolves. Areas such as compassion, understanding of life and death, pain and joy, family, etc.
Humans are the only species that members that enjoy hurting and killing. Humans are the only species stupid enough to believe they are the most intelligent. Humans are the only species that engage in war.
Some humans would argue that ants engage in war. But that is not true. Because war involves man-made weapons of mass destruction, practicing war on a regular basis, etc.
Ants use what nature gave them, like any other species on this earth, their numbers and their bodies. Only humans use anything beyond what nature gave them.
I apologize to those of you who do not agree, but I am entitled to my opinion. And humans need to learn they are not the greatest, nor are they the lords of this earth.
And on a related note. Very nice art, as always.
