Perhaps one of the more touching memorials in Normandy, and a reminder that the Second World War touched everyone. All Canadian soldiers were volunteers (conscription was never introduced), and this Native American styled monument is dedicated to those men who are not often associated with the fighting in Europe.

I watched this film where Native Americans fought in ww2. I didn't know the Canadians were involved in WW2.

Yup - still a British dominion in the 1940s. So when Britain declared war on Germany, so did the rest of the empire.

That explains it. At least Germany failed to defeat Britain. Thanks to the U.S. and the allied forces.

Actually, Canada was completely independent ny 1939, and chose to go to war, they were only under the Queen in her representative standing to Australia and Cannada

That's correct, and as I say in my description, it's even more moving that those soldiers who fought for Canada were all volunteers.
