I've lived on a boat for 16 years and each summer I would swim with my siblings. My brother was always the first to jump into the water because with every first swim of the year, I would be afraid to jump in. Probably afraid of the fact that I couldn't see what's hiding underneath the surface. :P
I still fear the deep dark waters but I'm also greatly fascinated to know what's in there. Especially deep down the oceans where there's no light, expect from the animals who live there. :D
I imagine Maquenda also fearing the water but more daring and curious to take a look at the beauty that is hiding there. I think she likes the water, as she is like a bird and aren't fish called the birds of the sea sometimes? :D
Not making much sense with my rambling I know..:P

The feathers of Maquenda look amazing and the light that shines in the water... Meike.. this is just truly beautiful <3
I was thinking about experimenting with her species for a while, not that it's permanent but she would be a nice seadragon :D I made this a while ago too: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13262856/
Beautyful work and your comment reminded me of something.
And it does make sense. Bear with me, this needs a little explanation.
I really have to read the Neverending Story again. Just in case you've seen and not read it. The first movie follows the first half of the book extremely well. The sequel movies less so.
After he saved the Empress, it's Bastians job to recreate Fantastica with his stories and wishes.
At his first stop he meets a lion (don't remember the size living in a Temple in the desert. Now my memory gets a little sketchy about the details, but I remember this much.
At a set time the lion has to go into the temple and falls asleep. It irked him because he does not know why until Bastian arrives and sees what happens when the lion falls asleep. During the lion's sleep the entire desert blooms into a jungle with very beautiful flowers and by the time the lion wakes up, it's all crumbled to sand again. I don't remember exactly, but it's somehow linked to the lion.
After Bastian tells and describes it to the lion he is content with falling asleep, knowing that his sleep allows such beauty into the world. He will never see it, but it is enough for him to know that it is there every time he sleeps.

This makes me smile...
If it was me... It would be of terror.. and me swimming frantically away from minute jelly fish. It is funny I've been stung by a sting ray.. but I don't fear them... but lil' jelly fish (say 1cm aka 1/2 inch)... and I will be flailing like a fish out of water (I don't scream wouldn't work with a snorkel on).
Fear of not knowing what is below you can be sound...(I never saw the stingray I stood on.. that subsequently stabbed behind my knee with it's tail)... but the risk is low(but it is hard to rationalise out the low risk).. but the risk of traversing the depths of the ocean has no risk.. but produces this beautiful image.

I have loved combed jellys for years now and this makes my soul smile to look upon. The depths of the sea hold such wonder. It is where we were born, our celestial womb. Perhaps the darkness therein is both feared and revered, an ancient memory stirred within our own depths of the place from which we rose to become ambient.
I am curious about the working process for this one! The way you layered the colors and light on the jelly's is just so luminous and wonderful! *sticks a straw in your muse* <8.

Oh my god, this is just...dumbfounding. This is probably the most beautiful piece of art I have seen on this website (I certainly can't think of a better one). Those iridescent colours are breathtaking, and the details like the colours in the eyes and the shine in the bubbles are just outstanding. Superb work!
Uhm I do sometimes take auctions for them like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15266263/
