Great to see these two again...I just bought the complete Sam and Max strips and the 3 DVD set of the toons at Comic Con and got Steve Purcell to sign them both. He did a panel at the con that I attended... was fascinating to see his other work. I had no idea he had worked for Pixar on "Cars"... Thanks for posting this!
Dude, I would have loved to be there. Steve Purcell is one of my favorite artists, and he really serves as an inspiration to me. If you havent seen it yet, here: http://spudvisionblog.blogspot.com/
It's his art blog. He posts a lot of his personal art and older design drawings. incredible stuff.

Mm.
I look at rule 34 of cartoons and video games and stuff all the time....but I was looking at this picture and I was trying to imagine how Max sketching his little picture and Sam reading the comics could go from enjoying a nice little morning in their little worlds in an atmosphere of childhood youth to fucking each other. And suddenly it didn't feel right.

Yeah, that's understandable.
Whenever I draw porn, well, I dont much these days, so I guess I should restate that. When I would draw porn (particularly fanart), I always gravitate to obscure, unlikely and unessessary characters to pummel to depravity for the sake of rule 34. It's fun for me, and provides a sort of shock value/ guilty pleasure amongst the commenters. That made it interesting for me, so I kept it up. I regret having drawn Sam and Max, having done so initially to generate some focus on them amongst furry wankers like myself. Somewhere along the way, I discovered just how much respect I had for artist Steve Purcell and his work, and felt that my drawings were disrespectful.
I've spent a lot of time growing as an artist buying into this whole furry thing, going along with it, but at this point I'm feeling a strong sense of disassociation, and I worry for my own future professional endeavors that stuff like this is going to bite me in the ass.
