I'm getting a few small things done with the Fiero lately and thought I would snap some pictures. I added some new 15x7 Max Sport 002 and replaced the old rotors and calipers with a crossdrilled set and new black painted calipers (picture was taken before it was all installed). Getting there little by little...

Its the Iron Duke. I was looking for the 2.8L V-6 but this was the only Fiero for sale at the time so I jumped on it. I may do a engine swap in the future...it depends on how much money I decide to put into it....I've got my eyes on a FC RX-7 Turbo II as well. Yeah, my first car was a fully loaded 1988 Fiero GT so I did own fastback. It was a fun car but I can tell a good weight difference between the two. The notchback feels a good 200-250lbs lighter and I can toss it around better in the twists.
Thanks for the comment, and now that I know you own one I want to check yours out :D

Coolness :) (Notchback! I hadn't heard that term in quite a bit so I had forgotten it)
Mines the 2.5 inline-4, and I've definitely made full use of it!

As small as the car is, I absolutely Love the rack in the back, as it gives me the carrying capacity I'd like to have in a car. Most of the time I would go for Station wagons (I have 3 dogs and live in the mountains, so I need the capacity to haul them out in case of emergency), but with the ability to do This, I've kept it!
Its quite a fun little car, too: Feels quite like a go-cart going up the hill, sure beats my 1.9L ford escort wagon going up the mountain! (11 miles going up from 1500' to 4700').
This cars been modded quite heavily too: As I mentioned they were Trying to wedge an A/C in, but that I'm taking out because it was causing more problems than its worth (and the added weight), and they managed to shove a 5-speed Getrag into it, which I found out when I had to replace the stock clutch master cylinder and found that the one they gave me for this year/model (86) was too short. Right now the Dash (the part where the speakers go and that hides the ducting) has been pulled out (Theres aLOT of room in there without the dash!!!), in part of me finding out where the overload was, and I might as well keep it out until I can find a suitable replacement from Ecology, the local auto wrecker that I like to go to: This last time I went they had 5 Fieros! :(
Sadly becaue of the tighter CA regulations theyre making it hard for all but the enthusiast to keep theirs running good emissions... I also found out something: Having my cars registered in a zip code thats at a higher elevation means they run the emissions test differently, and thus its easier for me to get it to pass!
Also, I've learned a new trick that saves me a full round trip to/from work gaswise: Going downhill, I put it in gear, and I turn Off the engine (into the unlock position) and coast down the entire way with it. The engine still turns because gravity is turning the wheels, which means the oil pump is running becaise its mechanical, and because the engine is turning I still have my vacuum for my brakes. The only Fun bit I have to do is listen to the engine (which then tuns into a giant gravity-run air compressor) and know which gear I'm in to determine my speed, because none of the gauges are on. (Not Even the the Odo.) This little trick turns my normal 4-day gas fillup to a 5 day fillup!!!
One day I'll get it to look as nice as yours: Finding parts tho are getting super tough. I'm kinda considering mabye picking up that aftermarket dash kit thats available... I Really gotta redo the seats tho.
Beyond all the asthetics, mine runs Great still! Except the fuel pump in the tank needs replacing now cause one time I let it go dry, and it did something to it in that now it only sees 7 out of 10 gallons of gas, and something happened with the float mechanism too as my Full reading is Empty, and Full is up and above Full.
Great to see you still working on getting yours all nice and cleaned up, leaves me something to look forward to!!

I see you've got the exact same problem with your passenger door as I do, lol!
The fuel sender is a problem on many Fiero's. It's hard to fix because you have to take the whole gas tank out, from under the car. As far as emissions, I don't think it's the elevation you live at, rather the county it's registered in. I had mine registered in Arroyo Grande, CA, and had it smogged in Van Nuys someplace, and they only did the idle and high idle check. Of course it passed, I've replaced the 2.8 at 223070 miles with a factory re manufactured engine from Rhinoengines.com (100,000mile/10yr warranty, and it only cost 1277 to drop it at the house, long block).
If you're going to replace the engine, why not stuff a v-8 in there like many others have done? Just avoid v-8/archie/cletus, I've only heard that he's the biggest douchebag in this universe. The cars are still pretty heavy, something like 2700 to 3000 pounds.
http://www.fierostore.com/ sells many parts, including the wheel hub assemblies. I don't care if your hubs are fine now, BUY THEM, as they're not made anymore and good luck finding any at a junkyard. There's no matching part, and you have to be really damn good if you're gonna fix them yourself. (my tale of woe: http://realfierotech.com/phpBB/view.....pic.php?t=6321 )
There's Fiero's West, and they have an annual Fiero Run, they go up California's central coast from usually Morro Bay to Monterey or so and back, and stay at a hotel and have lots of fun. Sadly, I couldn't attend any.

Mine is an 88 'Formula', BTW!

Neaters! Another scaley Fiero owner! :)
Concerning the hole on the side, One day my boss point blank commented "Thats never going to float again..." and I cracked up.
Enginewise, I'm actually quite happy with what I got, the little thing is quite zippy enough and fuel efficient for my needs.
What I'd LIKE to get is the Jalepeno kit for the Fiero which basically turns it into a Very sweet-looking offroader: http://www.pisafierohq.com/rebody_kits/jalapeno/ (I know, I know, I oughtta put in a stronger engine to take advantage of it, I figgure that the looks currently Really need to be fixed. Then the power).
Thanks fur the links to Fierowest! I've gotta do some checking out and dreaming, One day once I dig myself out of my hole I hope to afford the cooler stuffs!!

I think theres a Dallas area fiero club that includes areas surrounding. I know the San Antonio group includes the Austin area and other towns within a hour-two hours away. Our group meets the last Sunday of every month at a Dennys on Highway 90 and we have a few owners that show from Austin. I'll look it up when I get back from MFM to see if the Dallas area would include Sherman. I think it should.
Only 15's with lowering springs . I really wouldn't recommend going any larger than 16's though, the ride gets really rough with the low profile tires and can make the car twitchy at the limit. I'm running 215/60/15 in the front and 225/60/15 in the rear. I think maybe running 16's with 225/50/16 all around might be a good combo.
Thats what I thought, 15's sounded about right for what I wanted because I wasn't sure if 16's would look too big. I agree, anything larger would be downright silly... my ride is rough as it is with how stiff my suspension is. I won't be bothering with it though until I can afford brakes, wheels and new tires all at the same time. Also, trying to find wheels with the right diameter/width/lug pattern that look good is hard.
16's wouldn't be to big, I've got a friend that's running 16's on his GT and it looks real nice. If you run a 225/50/16 it will be about the same size as my 225/60/15 because of my larger sidewalls plus running a 50 sidewall should allow the car to handle better. As for the rims, yeah....fiero's are a pain in the ass to find good rims for. I think the widest rim you can put on is a 7 inch too. Like 15x7 or 16x7. I wanted to go 15x7 front and 15x8 rear for a cool deep dish rim look in the rear but it didn't fit so I had to go 15x7 all around. I know Sport Max makes some 5x100 bolt pattern rims and discount tire (Momo Corse RPM, MB Drifter and MB Seven X) and tire rack (ASA AR1's and Sport Edition CD's look pretty nice for the price). Another thing you'll really want to do is go to the FieroStore.com site and get a rear sway bar, it really does wonders for the handling and its only $150 if I remember right.
I already have Koni adjustable struts and a rear ADDCO sway bar. I've looked at TireRack.com and some of them just look plain ricey. Konig holds my interest a lot, but the only sizing available is for the 6000 and the Grand Am I think. I've never looked into Momo very much, I figured they just did steering wheels. At least now I have an idea for the bolt pattern and what width I should be looking at!
