Relaxing day today, I saw one of these and had to do it.

I'm using it almost exclusively for the last (?) quest in Sigerous Mod (Hey a psychic emission just occurred, go kill those FIVE HUNDRED ZOMBIES that just spawned that often travel in packs of 20)
Not even my mercenary exoskeleton can save me if I'm in their range, only way is to pick them off from a distance

How does it feel to be wrong
it's the ultimate "I can't be bothered fighting this mutant in particular" gun
Seriously, it can kill a pseudogiant in like five shots
Even better in Sigerous Mod since it's so generous with the ammo

I should clarify it was in lightly-modded* CoP - I found SoC too much of a chore for some reason (probably because you start with almost nothing and a very vague long-term goal, nevermind SoC's... quirky hit mechanics from what I remember) and never tried CS given even half the stories I'd heard about it.
It took me ages to figure out where most of my carry space had gone. Then I figured it out when I saw this mega-stack of 150 bread or whatever. XP
Ditching it all was a chore in terms of clicking.
*COMPLETE and a few other minor tweaks, no huge gameplay changes that I can recall aside from what COMPLETE can do with emissions.

Surprised there's no mention of the poltergeists and their NNNGSSHHHKKKSHSHNNSHKSKHSKKHK-ing in misery, I swear I was losing my mind IRL. Had the same damn thing happen to me a number of times from that damn controller though.
I may have to snag a stalker commission from you later now.

Holy shit, they were a runner up for sure. Did you get to the part where there's one hidden in a ceiling inside a lab...? The second you walk in you're just getting NNNNNNNYYYAAAAAAYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAA'd.
That controller is a pain in the nuts, haha. That was my first experience with Misery's redone psy / environmental damage.
And sure, could be fun!

Oh man, wasn't that the best?
I remember before I knew what I was getting into, an earlier version of Misery had the Iron Forest helicopter patrolled by two controllers, a psuedogiant, the poltergeist, and a bunch of zombies. Now you can usually find a chimera or two skulking around, or some Izloms if you're lucky.
...and what's the deal with the area around the Gas Station being a gigantic breeding ground for ludicrously-sized packs of dogs, cats, or psydogs...?

I only managed to kill that chimaera by running away and eventually it patrolled into the merc camp, slaughtered every one of them and i played ring around the rosie with it around a pole. It wasn't my proudest moment.
I ended up jumping into the fissure once to get away from those 8 million dogs. I regretted everything i had ever done.

Thankfully no, Bethesda didn't get it. The publisher of CoP bought it up.

That's good to know!
For some reason I thought THQ was bought up by Bethesda or something and aquired STALKER that way. I know Vostok Games is working on Survarium, a sort of STALKER-inspired MMO, so I thought because they weren't going ahead with STALKER 2 they weren't allowed to use the name or something.

Reading that article now has me interested in the fact BitComposer bought the rights to make video games based on the book Stalker.
But anyway, seems atm(at least what I can find) GSC Game World still owns the rights to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but I believe he's just going to sit on it and not do anything with it again, sadly.

Yes :-/ I enjoy Fallout quite a bit actually. BUT stalker had it's own atmosphere and feeling about it that I loved. It was more gritty and realistic. We can only hope they do it some justice if they even plan on continuing with it's production. They may just shelf it :-/

I have my own story.
I use to play ShoC with the Super Mod Pack installed. Walking around the garbage I noticed a red blip on my radar. Not uncommon. Then said blip started running at me. Again, not uncommon.
Here's where problems began. This blip was moving rather fast, and I didn't see what this blip belong to. Two things happened almost instantaneously: My heart sank as I knew it had to be a bloodsucker, and I saw a pair of glowing red eyes as it got closer.
I did what any self-respecting STALKER does in that situation and yelled while backpedaling and firing off my AK. This abomination soaked up all my rounds, so I turned tail and hauled ass. I figured I was in the clear because I had a stash of energy drinks I was scarfing down while hauling ass, and I nearly was. Until I passed a tractor(This mod added drivable vehicles back into the game) and promptly had it thrown at me when the Night Lord(The type of bloodsucker this thing was) rammed into it going full speed.

Speaking of mods, have you gotten on board Lost Alpha?
http://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-alpha
The team worked with GCS to reconstruct the original Shadow of Chernobyl story and gameplay. New engine, new assets, new voice acting, new story, new and reconstructed maps.
It was originally on a track to be released as a full game, but some asshole leaked it and ruined that chance, so the team has released it for free, and seem to continue support with patches.

I have played it for quite a while, but fell back into Misery. While I can appreciate what they've done, some things were just too tedious, and a lot of things were un-usable for me (hitting anything going more than 2kph in a vehicle broke my game). Lots of large, open spaces with nothing to particularly do, stuff that impeded my progress when I wanted to drive.
I'd look back into it once some of the bugs clear out and it's a bit more polished / stable!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't "awful," was still pretty fun and had lots of new things. It just sort of got tedious with the fact Bar is like it's own Area, and you have to walk completely around the map to even try to get in. Then you have to find your way though a myriad of hallways and alleys. Stuff like that.
Only mods I've ever used were Misery for CoP, and I'll never ever play again without it. It just adds so much!
Just be prepared for a really hard, brutal / realistic experience. Save a lot, death comes literally from out of nowhere. Guys might snipe you, a chimera could just sneak up on you and kill you from one leap a mile away.
Lots of saves, and a backup in case STALKER goes and breaks.

I've played all of them but Clear Sky, which I heard was OK at best for a STALKER game.
Call of Pripyat is reportedly the one that crashes least-often, but has a bit of a different feel than the original.
I'd say CoP, but only because you can then get the Misery mod once you're comfortable with the vanilla mechanics.

I played Shadow of Chernobyl waaay back, and I remember well those first encounters with those paranormal things in the underground bunkers. The gun jams at the right moment when some lovecraftian horror jumps at you, fuck that shit.
Oh, and I'd recommend giving the film it is loosely based on a try. It could take some patience to watch as the pace is slow and the takes are looooong, but it is one of the most deep and beautiful works of film I have ever seen.

I think the Stalker movie (directed by A. Tarkowsky) had some kind of curse; all the main character actors died from cancer/radiation poisoning because they filmed the ending in a contaminated area. :P

Is it bad that while waiting for Misery to download at dial up speeds last night that I crapped my pants when during the first 15 minutes into vanilla I encountered a random cave where some demon yelled into my ears to LEAVE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
10/10. But seriously so far the Vanilla game is like a working, far superior version of DayZ combined with a bit of recent Fallout games to satiate my loot whoring and post apocalyptic gun-play and weird sciency stuff happening in a more gritty fleshed out setting. The fact that there's no fast travel makes it even more excellent and immersive. Soooo good. Damn you for getting me into a new game a week before my University classes start.
Misery just finished installing so I have to ask; Assault, Recon, or Sniper?

Haha, yeah, that particular cave made it onto my list - in Misery the psy waves that mutant makes are enough to kill you through the ground above it... if you didn't already know it was there it would seem like a random, broken, near-instant death.
Definitely play around in vanilla for a little bit I think, just to get a feel for the game and the mechanics, and you'll also have a better idea of what exactly Misery is changing.
But to answer your question, I usually rock Sniper because he seems the most "balanced" oddly enough. Experiment though!

Oh those things, I remember those from OL SOC.
I stopped playing misery 2.0 because of how silly the economy was, you start with nothing so you get nothing, which means you cant acquire things that are money. Go out and finally get an artifact here or there or some other shit, oh hey look I can now just barely pay for the food today. Time to keep on mining.
For some reason I want to play again anyways regardless of that still being a thing.

It certainly is a little wonky at first - but it's worth learning. Once you get the flow of things, it's very easy to start getting an income.
Sticking to one weapon helps loads, and don't take any weapon you can't sell to Owl. Take the ammo out of guns and sell anything weapon-related to Owl for maximum profits. Anything that comes from a mutant or is otherwise misc., sell those to Beard.
Doing missions also helps out a lot - you're rewarded in money and more often than not loot from dead bodies or guys you have to take out.
Artifacts are just really hard to get, but if you net the right ones for Beard, I've gotten like 13k from some.
All in all though - that's sort of the point of the mod. Nothing's every easy, and you'll constantly be managing resources, counter-effecting drugs or shit food you have to eat to survive. Oh, smoking rolled tobacco is more effective and less-damaging than anti-rad drugs. So just sell those. Sell everything that's not ammo for your own weapon, really haha.

But yeah jokes aside If I had to start talking about my STALKER experiences it would take a good year or more. This "meme" list wouldn't even scratch the surface.
And well, Honestly the game was already infuriating and beyond frustrating at times.... I never really got into the "Misery" craze. And while it may be a very appropriate and fitting mod to some people who played the game, to me it would the equivalent of staple my balls to a stack of paper.....
When I play a videogame, Especially something like STALKER I want to enjoy the atmosphere and the story... Not pulling my hairs out and smash my keyboard in rage.

At least in the newest versions, it doesn't matter so much the weapon as long as you can hit something with it (and it can accept some form of armor-piercing ammo for human enemies).
Generally I always have some sort of shotgun for mutants, and anything that can shoot AP for humans. It's mostly just about finding a gun that works for you!
What class were you?

If you're already in the middle of it (in there with Grouse) I'd see it though; the bodies have really good loot on them. Be sure to check EVERYWHERE, especially the guy who's a little beyond what looks like jail-bars. He usually has an artifact on him.
Not sure what horrible Xray Engine mysterious would happen if you decide to leave!

You gotta give Sigerous Mod a try sometime (here http://www.moddb.com/games/stalker-.....ish-all-in-one), the english translation might be a bit shoddy but it just adds so much stuff, maps from the other games (you get all the normal areas from CoP but also the swamps and the Red Forest from Clear Sky, Agroprom, Dark Valley (X18 included) and Cordon from SoC), upgradeable detectors, new factions and quests etc.
Oh and snorks and bloodsuckers with guns

Dear diary
I have spent 6 hours playing STALKER SoC today. I thought to myself, "hey, you played HL2, this would be like one huge Ravenholm on steroids".
On my second day in the Cordon, I looked at the raining sky and admitted myself that my previous comparison was probably the biggest understatement I made in my life.
And now... I want is a vacation.

Huh. I've only managed to find that one, in the cave. Previous saves / playthroughs though I remember them just crawling out of the woodwork. Snorks were always a pain in my side. I hate how there's like this moment where you lock eye-contact with one like a mile away thinking "don't you fucking dare come over here" and they never fail to just start doing their gangly gait right at you.
I also saw two burers fight a pseudogiant in Jupiter - that was kind of neat, haha.
