Another experiment - a coyote headdress.
I'm enamored with her. I have a soft spot for coyotes but something about her 'look' gets me. I was just using my usual references when sculpting but since she's not a competition piece could could play with her a little more than usual and I think she's become her own character in a way. Its hard to explain. It's like she knows something you don't. A secret? A trick? We might never know.
I fabricated an elastic cap of sorts to wear that is screwed and cemented to the foam coyote head interior. I might tweak it some, but I'm pretty happy with how it behaves for general wear. She also rides nicely on a shoulder interestingly enough.
She's from Idaho for the curious.

Does she hurt to wear? Like...the styrofoam being heavy/hard? I've got a wolf headdress and if I don't wear him with a padded beanie he can be pretty ouchy (still hurts even with padding after a while just 'cause of the weight and such). This is absolutely gorgeous! Would you ever do a commission for a headdress like this?
She doesn't hurt at all from my small bit of rambling around.
Hot? Yes. Do I have some pressure on my forehead? Yes. But, she's not at all uncomfortable.
I'll be wearing her off and on this coming weekend at a conference as a test run to see how my set-up behaves. I have a feeling I'll have to add a chin-strap just because I'm so bouncy and animated, but for normal people I feel my current set-up would be fine.
I built her on a plain change-out head not the rug forms I've seen people typically use so there's no wood inside the foam. What weight she has comes completely from the critter clay used in the ears and eye sculpts and she weighs maybe 2-3lbs - her backside seems to be a near-perfect counterweight for the weight of her head
Anyway, I'm hoping to offer commissions for these after I get my business permit Thursday and after make certain that my headdress build is of the quality I require. I would never want offer something like this without making sure that it is fun to wear firs! :D
