so I haven't gotten to LARP in forever but I somehow managed to get the time and $ together last weekend and went as Gullinbursti aka Gully the Maneater Warrior Poet. So I snorted and yelled and banged on a singing bowl and hit people with my big foam spear (it's a metaphor, maybe). This was me pretending to pole dance with my spear. Because that is what you do.
AND I THOUGHT FOR SOME REASON Y'ALL MIGHT WANT TO SEE THIS DUMB NONSENSE SO HERE YOU GO.

DANG RIGHT! It was actually an in-game thing, people got infected with seeds that filled their bodies with vines, and a lil flower popping out of their chest, and they would be bonded to another person with a flower. Couldn't be outside of ten paces from them or you'd be in agony as your plant tried to stay close to theirs. It was a pretty annoying-but-fun scenario, we called it Petal Pals and Bloommates.
When I played a badger, I started with a glued-on upper-face latex prosthetic purchased from NorthFur, but it was too heavy and wouldn't stay on once I sweated the least bit. So I went to full-face makeup, which didn't look as good, but was OK for my first larp character. When I played the rat, I decided "no more full-face makeup or glue!" and simplified by painting a rodent nose on, using a big 'whiskery' stage mustache, and big false buckteeth, plus a rat tail in back, and it worked pretty well. The mole used exactly the same teeth but with pop-bottle glasses, a mining hat, and a 'dirty' face from digging underground (and a rodent nose again). I've found that whenever I've gotten really elaborate with my makeup/masks, I start hating life by Saturday night, so I've opted more for comfort, I admit!
I totally understand that! I switched to a tie-on mask I made myself so I wouldn't have to fight with paint and liquid latex as much, though I think doing the Northfur prosthetic is still my fav look out of my costumes. I really like the badger!! Sadly the mole link isn't working for me, but it sounds wonderful.
Whoops! Maybe this will work better?.
I was just talking to a larp friend last night and discussed complex masks. He said that what he's seeing more and more are masks attached to spandex balaclavas that you can just slip on and cover your whole head, like these from Northfur. Much easier than glue and more comfortable than tying a mask on.

WAH that's so precious, I love the boffer shovel!! Goodness gracious. I spend way too much time lusting after everything on the Northfur site, but I hadn't seen the custom hood entry, hmmmm! I had seen the boar face mask http://northfur.ca/index.php?main_p.....roducts_id=334 made on spandex, and was giving serious consideration to that.
