Sarah is the group medic, she has a natural born specialization using medical magic. She studied to be a doctor to learn the ins and outs of the body, which greatly helped by allowing her to know what to focus on when healing people.
She my be able to use magic to heal, but sadly there are a lot of people who don't want to be healed that way (these people tend to hate magic users, or are just leery of having it used on them) so she has skill to do surgery without the aid of her magic, with is what's going on here.
Also this is what I think a furry would look like get ready for surgery, at least minor surgery I feel.
