a Commission for Maverikat, here we have the character Zecora. not sure what she is, a sorceress, a voodoo queen, an enchantress? I like her design tho. kind of looks like old school Storm from Xmen. I liked to keep the Mohawk look and wanted keep it in the pic.
the colors came out nice but the drawing took three attempts to get it to how i liked it.

You did an excellent job. As for who Zecora is, she's basically the 'Obi-wan' Figure in MLP. The one with answers and guidance when you can't bother a busy royal. A very nice balance between Unicorns and Earth Ponies as her style of magic is all from the earth, ingredients and potions.
Also, she was introduced to use for the moral, 'don't just a book by it's cover' i.e. 'racism is bad' in as kid friendly a way as possible. Until the ponies got to know her, the town thought of Zecora as this...

Seeing just the thumbnail made me think of Winter in her human form with her hair in Zebra stripes.
I met the Ronzo back in 2006 at Otakon. I showed him what I did and I gotta have him see how far I got. I doubt he'd remember me other than I dropped off a few commissions requests from GreatDragonAD.

The usual interpretation is that she's an herbalist in a world where plants can have magical attributes, thus she has a knowledge of (if not actual ability to perform) magic as well.
She was also set up to be the more worldly, less official ally and source of information and "quests" in the series. Personally, I'd have split off part of that into an elderly pony (or couple) that tottered about their business or sat quietly observing the world while sipping tea (or whatever) -- giving other ponies plenty of opportunities to chat with them and get some advice, or at least time to think through their problems.
