I wasn't sure at first what this creature was going to be, but I liked drawing it! I think I've come up with something good now.
This fantastic creature is a Whisper Hawk. It is a blind, predatory creature which locates its prey by scent and sound. Whisper Hawks typically hang upside-down by their tails from tree limbs outside, or stone stalactites in caverns when they sleep during the day. During the night when they hunt, they may hold onto walls with their talons and wait for prey to walk beneath them. When their prey is within reach, they will lash their long tails around the prey and use their powerful muscles to suffocate or break the prey's neck.
The prehensile flaps on the ends of their wing-arm tendrils act as reflectors for sound. This is used in the Whisper Hawk's preferred method of hunting-- securing itself in a tunnel or archway and positioning the reflectors on either side, nearer to the floor, so they may get a more precise idea of when to strike at their oblivious prey.
To make their stationary hunting methods more effective, Whisper Hawks have developed an extraordinary camouflage method similar in effect to that of chameleon, changing the colors of its skin to match that of its surroundings.
I was inspired to draw this after doing a sketch to help my girlfriend figure out how to draw horns which curved around ears
