I've grown alot more comfortable handling larger snakes. It has been a long process to work up the courage and acceptance of the temperament of the large animals that I have right now (which by the way is puppy dog tame). I usually need to remind myself that if it was going to just haul off and bite me, it woulda done that a loooong time ago! lol.
Working through my fear of snakes has provided many levels of challenges to take on and each challenge has gifted me with a great reward. Big snakes was a huge hurdle for me and though I'm alot more comfortable with them than I was back in 2013, I still personally feel I have a little ways to go. But I do not think we handlers ever stop being cautious. You should always remain cautious with big animals and if you need to work with a large animal that is very powerful, make sure you have a safety observer on hand just in case things go south and you need that second person to help you wrangle the animal.
My current experience level is my 8' Dumerils boa. Shes not mean by any means, shes just a much larger animal. larger than Bebe and that means I do need a saftey observer when attempting to handle her.
moral of the story: don't let fear rule your behavior and do your thinking for you, its a negative status affect.

i adopted her from somebody who was rehoming his entire collection. so I got her at this size for 250.
if you choose to get a snake but are afraid of something large like this, start out with ball pythons. You may learn to realize that you may enjoy owning something a bit bigger.
I didn't really just grow into a large snake...i just dived on and adopted this big girl lol

good job on working on your fear of snakes. a lot of people will see a snake or spider and go "AHH KILL IT" thinking it's funny ahjg;fdsgfs
I got that reaction a lot with our ball python. :/ it upset me every time. he was as cuddly as a puppydog too. but nobody liked him because "eww aren't they slimy" or "ew he'll bite me and I'll die" sdfgh

yes, i completely sympathize with where you're coming from. I also get the get-rid-of-your-snakes-thats-the-devils-animal speech. I hadn't gotten it in a while after I rebutted with my-dog-is-a-fudog-and-mitigates-evil-vibes. Fight superstition with more superstition lol
I understand what you're going through completely! I love snakes and was blessed with taking care of an 8' albino burmese python. He was a little skittish, but super sweet when he realized you weren't going to hurt hi, but I was always super cautious and slightly afraid of them. They're much harder to read animals then others, but can also be wonderful creatures to associate with. Congrats on beginning to break your fears!
