But Groot's whole thing is that he can't die as long as any piece of him is left intact. In fact, this movie changed it up a bit because he's supposed to be able to grow back almost instantly. That was one of the ways Rocket escaped from jail. Usin' a piece of Groot as a toothpick and then pullin' it out and havin' Groot grow from it right then and there. Honestly I thought that little sprout he plucked from his cheek before the big mission was gonna be what he grew back from XD
But y'know. Cute dancin' sapling Groot. Everyone loves cute dancin' sapling Groot <3

no ..you are not getting me .. my point is that from the story perspective ..it makes no sense to treat groot is sacrifice as something that is important if the guy is just going to come back instantly ..his sacrifice has no weight in the story ..therefore is a pointless scene in the film .. and it shouldn't .. because the film already build up how important is groot for rocket... even if in the comics this wouldn't even be a thing ..the film had already build up that This was something ...
this is one those thing you either go all the way with it or not even get near it ....

I disagree. Rocket THOUGHT Groot was going to die, and seemed to think Groot HAD died. Groot was prepared to die for his friends. If you sacrifice yourself and somehow pull through by the skin of your teeth, that doesn't make your sacrifice worthless - if anything I think the near-miss helps drive home the point that he was prepared to die to save his friends, and that such sacrifices have a strong impact on those friends.
No doubt such scenes can be done badly, but in Guardians it wasn't. In my opinion.
You can always decide Groot didn't come back in your headcanon. ;)

but it was badly done .. it doesn't matter what Rocket THOUGHT .. what matter is What I thought ..im the audience..they guy the film is telling story to ... no one is saying the sacrifice was worthless,... im saying that as a scene in the film ..it is pointless ....because it disregards the emotional fallout of the moment .. it just waste the moment ..they build it up and then didn't do anything relevant with it .... that is bad Filming 101
(also head canon? what the heck are you talking of ? this aint Mlp ..its a freaking marvel film ..there aint room for head canon )

It's not like they can just kill him off like that anyway, he's a necessary part of the team. Besides they basically did kill him in this film and will bring him back in the next one. He's useless right now because he's a tiny sapling. It's not certain how long it takes him to regenerate. And, to be fair, that little twig Rocket used to help him grow back looked really well cooked so maybe he did think he died but was takin' a chance just in case? ;3 Who knows heh
is still bad storytelling .. and yes ... they can just kill him off like that and exactly because he's a necessary part of the team ..heck he is necessary part of rocket's life and character .. again ..its like they did with spock in start trek 2 ..they kill him and start trek 3 is all about his death and how it affect captain kirk and how spock comes back ... and no one expected him to die start trek 2 and now its one of the most iconic moment in the history of Sci fi ..
guardians of the galaxy build up a similar thing and instead of using it .they throw it away!.... then why build it up in the first place ?

I think you might be looking a little too the movie side of it all and forgetting about the comic fans they have to appeal to here. Groot regenerating himself this way kind of becomes a central thing to his character in the comics later. Similarly in the comics, something happens where Groot is supposedly destroyed and is taken out of commission for a long time before it's revealed that he can fully regenerate from essentially a sliver of his body. Later in the series, he's able to regenerate seemingly a lot faster and from less (in one of the comics, Rocket basically carries him around as a toothpick) and has at times let even himself be broken apart to take advantage of a smaller-sized Groot.
The entire movie, to me, was essentially a good warm up to the characters in the Guardians, and this scene helped establish a lot of the core things about both Rocket and Groot's personalities and abilities (mostly Groot for this scene in particular) that you might not have known without having read the comic books. I assume that now that these things have been laid as groundwork, any future movies can implement similar kinds of action scenes without having to belabor the point that Groot can just kinda do this.
Does this make the scene any better? Not really. Especially for someone to not like it to begin with. Personally I still liked it for it's cuteness. It's also the biggest source of Rocket fanart, and I loove myself some Rocket fanart ^^
