that's my mom's recipe! take string beans add salt, pepper, garlic, and about a teaspoon of basil per cup of beans, [a lot] sautee till cooked. opitmally you add a bunch of parmesan to them at the end! cheesy basil beans! but they taste yummy without, as well. pretty simple, but when you're cooking with canned beans, just cooking in some seasonings goes a looooooong way.
oh fun! make sure to keep after those beans, they tend to stop producing if you let them get over ripe and start getting all bulgey, also...try plucking a leaf, and sticking it like velcro to your shirt. *giggle* always fun. as for the basil, I usually use dried, but feel free to chiffonade some of it, i'm sure that'll taste good! why don't you plant a few plants!
I have one type in also known as basil mint but its too early in Australia to get any really good start on regular basil yet. I won't be planting out much for about a month. we had a week of really nice weather so some of the prep has been done but its gone back to winter like weather for a bit.
Ah summer in Australia, I had all the children at my place on New Years Eve and a very prolific veggie garden so we had a game of make-believe. I love playing with leaves from plants, we had great big leaves from a pumpkin vine that we broke off and got some of the curly tendrils from another. the leaves were plates and the board to write orders on and the curly tendrils were our pens and ran our own make believe fresh veg restaurant. We had fresh peas, fresh pulled young carrots and all manner of things all from the garden. The leaves were even big enough to be used like sun hats. lots of *giggles*
*hugs*

sounds like lots of fun! ahh... new years eve down under must be so different, for us, it's winter wonderland, and for you...what, mid growing season, huh? but yeah, bean leaves, are very fuzzy, and stick to cotton shirts nicely! they're fun to wear like armor! I think basil mint is really a type of mint, but yeah, I think basil is something you don't normally get from seed, but it's also very tender, so too early to plant it anyway.
