An economy as only mighty as Italy, part of a larger and still more robust EU. Nukes they cannot use. A primitive armed force (navy, technological industry, and air-force). A population level only narrowly placing it within the planet's top 10 (unlike the billions you invoked). These things do not warrant one the title of "superpower". More imperialist menace that needs to be dealt with. You'll find Russia doesn't quite fit the definition anymore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superpower
Also, if what you say is true, then why does America try so hard not to piss them off so much when dealing with Ukraine? And I don't think Mi-24's are a very primitive weapon, or tanks, because if thats primitive then America is just the middle ages, and Africa as a continent is set in the stone ages.
What about the numerous roaming neo-nazi street gangs that often go around Moscow beating up, kidnapping & murdering gays(particuly since dictator Putin's popular crackdown on homosexuality) and non-whites/and migrants from former Soviet union era central asian countries?. Then they often film it & upload to the web. I've watched and heard some pretty bad things about them and Russian society's attitude towards homphobia and racism in general. I hope im wrong on that dough and things have changed.
I live in Russia all my life and it's NEVER been a thing. Most of my friend's are gay and they never had any problems with it. If there is few idiots on youtube, it doesn't represents whole country at all.
It's calm here, nothing like that happens on the street, it's pretty regular European country, asian part is not that industrial, but non the less, there is no street gangs.
It's like saying that all Americans are very fat, because we saw it on youtube and in movies a lot.

Yeah, btw, try to not make this post a place for posting your political opinion.
I don't care about it, as I don't care about politics in general. Saying obvious things like war is bad and yadda, yadda doesnt changes anything. I don't drink tea with Putin in the morning, he isn't my father. I can't talk to him.
The only thing I can tell you that coming to Russia for RusFurence is absolutely safe.
If you have some exact questions, I'm happy to answer.

Colour me actually quite curious. I've always have had an interest in visiting the country as well as meeting cool people like you, Qzurr and others I havn't heard of yet. Also rather liking the theme. If things work out on my end I may very well end up going.
I do have a couple of questions. How big is the con, what's the attendance numbers like? Also, what's the general dynamic? Is it a social con with lots of people hanging out in mixed groups or going places. Or is it more panel and events based with people sticking more to their rooms or their own groups? Or is it a combination?
Also while I do have an interest in the country I am first to admit I'm very unfamiliar with it. Anything I need to know, or any advice you'd like to give me?

Con has around 300+ people there and Russian furs are very much into parties. Panels takes places here and there, but most of the furries prefer just hang our together, we have big halls with tables and sofas, where people are allowed to have hookah, eat, drink and just spend time, but since it's a public location, everyone is welcome to join, which makes a huge parties where a lot of people spend time and chat together even if they never knew each other before. And sure there is roomparties, as everywehre, heh. Also, Russian furries are very not used to foreings to visit our convention (its about 20 people from other countries who visited us and does on a regular basis), so they are very curious and it easily makes you a center of their attention and always welcome at every party XD
Actually I saw a lot of gay people kissing on the streets without problems. But anyway, if there WOULD be any, RusFurence hotel is not in the city, it's in the nature, forest around, a lot of place to walk and so, which is holded by our Hotel. And we are in this Hotel almost every year, so their staff used to us ^^
Sorry, haven't seen your comment.
There is tons of people in Moscow and so many freaks, it is capital, what do you expect? People don't react on people with strange clothes.
Furries fursuiting at the central streets near Kremlin and so.
Also con itself is at the country side, between woods and so on. We have whole hotel for our needs. There is simply no civilians around anyway.

Maybe the Russian furries don't hate gay people, but what about the 88% approval rating of the new anti gay laws?(Assuming that these numbers weren't skewered by the Kremlin)
Also, what about the fact that hardly any Neo Nazis have been prosecuted for their anti gay crimes?(The ones that have been were for other reasons)
